3D printing can do a lot of practical things.

That said, multicolor printing is incredibly wasteful and doesn't have a ton of practical purposes other than aesthetic.

When removing a bath drain I didn't have the proper tools so I made one in 45 minutes.

I've also printed some spice racks that perfectly fit those Tone's spices and mount in the cabinet door, freeing up space.

Lastly they can be useful for making custom parts for board gaming hobby.

Mostly hobby, I print some practical stuff like wall holder for my router, watch charger holder for my kids watch which would otherwise cost 30$.

I think this is a bit of an alarmist take on the situation. I haven't seen any indication that Bambu is moving towards a close system where you can ONLY use their filament, build, plates, etc. What they have done is use proprietary software (where many other players are open source).

What they have done is make it so that their printers work the best with their filament and build plates. Their stuff has been pretty competitively priced too, and while I've been a pretty ardent fan of "value" filaments, as the Bambu filaments come down in price (especially their black Friday sale prices) I've started to just use their stuff as it's a bit easier and more convenient.

I think a very valid argument is that they are simply protecting their engineering investment.

I started with a Creality Ender 3 Clone to see if it was something I used, and now have a P1S with the AMS. I use a lot of printers on the high school robotics team I mentor, and our Prusa Mark3's sat largely idle with weird issues, while our A1 Mini's get used constantly by our kids without issue.

This does seem like a solid deal, but for me a Bambu will get my future money as their ecosystem is just so much easier to use. I don't think either one is a bad choice though.

I'll print custom random useful things like a headset hook that clips to my desk that doesn't have much of an edge for a standard clip, or a phone holder that clips to my wife's exercise bike. I've also printed miniatures for tabletop role-playing games.

I've been using 3D printing for many years, long before consumer printers were a thing. For me it's often a tool to make replacement parts for things I fix or to make new things (housings for electronics etc). 3D printers can also make things like specialty drill guides or templates for cutting/drilling things in a pattern. Lots of people use the printers to make custom organizing trays/holders for toolboxes, hobby spaces etc.

You can also print random toy junk with them... I've done some of that too.

Yes, Bambu has it's fair share of issues, and when the technology doesn't work things break hard (I haven't had any issues) due to less user experience in diagnosing and fixing it.

I've been 3D printing since 2014.

Bambu A1 is probably the best starting point printer just because it's extremely good quality for the price and easy to use.

I'd buy a Prusa or Bambu and that's it.

I think the K2 has a lot of the features you talked about. It absolutely has vibration compensation (part of input shaping) but I think you need to get the K2 Plus (or the K1 max) to get flow calibration via camera/lidar respectively. However, I agree that sometimes the overall execution isn't as good.

As a LONG time Creality owner, i can say i started with and Ender Pro then Pro V3 the K1 Max then K2 Plus always expecting it to get better and it did... by a small margin. I wasted a lot of time and money on their machines. Doing DIY upgrades and improvements to get reliable and better prints just to call it quits on the K2 plus and buy a Bambu H2S. Creality is fine if you want to save a couple hundred dollars but you will spend more time fixing and tinkering with the printer than you realize, always trying to get a stable print and decent looking final product. Bambu is the way to go if you want a run key solution that won't let you down. Their ecosystem is "Locked down" but for your average person that doesn't matter. The best Creality printer I ever owned was a K1 Max (no CFS) with $500 worth of upgrades on it and countless hours of custom software/hardware configurations. My Bambu H2S printed so much better right out of the box I almost cried. It's been almost a year and still no issues and not a single failed print. Idk or care what they do at Bambu but I'm NEVER going back.

If it's anything like the K2 Plus I owned it will let you down constantly. It's less of a 3D Printer and more of a frustration producer. Qidi if you hate Bambu, Creality if you hate yourself.

K2's are largely K1 models with all the fixes applied. I had a K2 Plus and the printer was great in every way, except for the bed, which was horribly imperfect.

I can only speak for myself, but I've been looking into more additive hardware to augment my furniture, workstation, and hobbies to improve quality of life, or just enhance my day to day experiences. I initially started out by buying whatever potential solutions were available at big box stores or on Amazon, but looking into Etsy opened up a whole new perspective on just how many semi-customized 3d printed parts were on the market for things closer to my need. $300 into successful purchases - and more importantly, forming better opinions about what exactly I need in terms of fit and materials - I did the math and decided it would be worth it in the mid to long run if I just bought my own printer and supplies to dial in exactly what I need. I have no plans for selling anything on Etsy, or print trinkets. I'm basically just treating it like any other tool I my garage and will be okay with that level of utility.

Been looking for a larger build volume. I did not realize Costco has entered the 3D Printer market.

I know this can do multiple colors, but will the Creality software/CFS allow for multi materials in 1 print?
