I have 2 of these units (along with 3 * 12k btu with heat, and a single 8k btu with heat). I've had them 3 years now I think.

The U-Shape is more of a gimmick in my opinion. But they work great nonetheless. So I guess if you enjoy opening your window while the unit sits right there in place, this is a great option

wished they have a C unit for folks that have side opening window (versus top down).

I paid $279 in April, 2025. Everything goes up each year I guess, especially now.

There are ways to mount windows units in a side window, but it's a bit kludgey.

These Midea units are known for quietness as the U-Shape keeps more of the compressor/inverter noise on the other side of the window.

Or not. Double Duh.
"Standard window AC units must remain upright and strictly horizontal for the following reasons:

Compressor Damage: The sealed compressor relies on a specific oil pool to lubricate its moving parts. Mounting the unit on its side causes the oil to drain away, which will cause it to quickly overheat and seize up.

Refrigerant Flow: The internal copper coils, tubing, and refrigerant are engineered to function based on gravity in a horizontal position. Turning the unit sideways disrupts the pressures and flow.

Improper Drainage: Window ACs are designed with a drip pan and drain holes so condensation naturally flows to the outside. Mounting the unit vertically blocks these drainage paths, causing water to pool inside the chassis."
