This is not a backpack.

I bought this in December. It's great for a 3-4 day trip if you pack light and don't need a bunch of hoodies or bulky things. But it's definitely smaller than the $50 Costco generic clamshell style hard roller luggage it replaced.

The small zipper compartment on this on the top fits a pair of sandals but not much else.

It's a nice bag and I like it, but it's definitely smaller than other carry on bags with a similar foot print.

Anyone have this? Is this more for camera equipment?
I am going out to Utah for my wedding in July - flying out there for 4 days, then going into our honeymoon as soon as its over traveling to Canada and then to a cruise to Alaska. Looking for a nice backpack style bag for carryon that I can fit clothes and some extras in. Anyone got a recommendation?

For backpack style carry-on, I have and can recommend Tortuga packs, and Samsonite (formerly eBags) Motherlode packs. They both hold up really well for all kinds of travel. Some have roller style and some do not (to stay lighter and leave more space for packing)...so check the different styles and dimensions to suit your needs.

Congratulations on the nuptials!

My concern, as voiced by others, is that this isn't so much a backpack you know?

(and while you aren't going to eu/uk or anything on this particular trip, 22" in a hard case (have to look if this accordions a bit in that regard), would get you into trouble with some airlines for international travel going forward where they are a little tighter on that, ranging from 19" to 21" etc...)

what camera gear do you plan on packing? I got a REI trail 40. it held a peak design small camera cube with z7ii with battery grip with a 24-200mm and a 180-600mm lens in a soft case. this was for an alaskan cruise. there wasn't a whole lot of room left - just a packing cube with chargers and a packing cube with 1 day's of clothes, in case there were issues with my checked luggage. oh and my laptop fit in the hydration bladder sleeve.

and this needs to be said - I would miss my flight before checking my camera gear.

None. I was just asking if this was a camera bag or a travel bag.

ah, then my answer stands - I use my REI trail 40 for travel. since it has an internal frame, it doesn't fit under the seat.

Doesn't this smallest one exceed the carryon limit.

Are you saying its smaller externally or it holds less stuff than one of the generic rollers even though it's got the two wheels?

Do you think 47L is the external volume?
