Did you see that article TODAY about the FBI and TP Link routers?

I am not allowed to copy and past much due to SD.net rules, so you should google it yourself. But why was it only a list of TP LInk routers that were mentioned today and that list is LONG.

I don't think this is on the list but after I read that article... don't know if I want TP LInk routers right now.

the vulnerability was available to most other router brands as well......so it doesn't really matter.

Dude, do you believe everything that .gov tells you? Everything and everyone that USA can't compete with, US.gov bans and claim "national security". Look what they did to HuaWei and TikTok. Oh, I remember they also claimed Supermicro M/B had backdoor about 10 years ago. But Edward Snowden showed us that it was NSA, CIA/MOSSAD, FBI, MI6, ... that had backdoors on everything they sold. If you think those remote kill switches only exists on export F-16's, then you are sorely mistaken.

I agree 100%... the article claimed multiple companies but when it gave a list of effected models.... they listed like 60 TP Link models and no other brand?

Like, it was a hit job from the FBI to screw over TP LInk. I just don't know.

The concerning thing about TP-Link is that they just abandon their hardware. They stop firmware updates. The security vulnerabilities don't stop. They just simply refuse to patch them. Is that by design? The U.S. government seems to think so. That they leave vulnerable routers for the Chinese spies to take advantage of. I personally wouldn't use one of their routers if it was given to me for free.

Any decent router company gives updates for years. I've grown to really respect ASUS. Not only did they do it with their motherboards (they really didn't have to offer firmware updates to their motherboards to allow newer CPU chips to be compatible with their old 5+ year hardware) but they did. They do the same with their routers too.

Big YMMV on that one, I convinced my woman to buy it at $300 instead of running hardwire and went in the next day and saw them at $100. New prices on eBay went from ~$350 to ~$250 overnight. That was a 3xBE11000 set vs this 2xBE10000. I'd rather find that one eBay

I have the BE16000 from 2 years ago and I can say that TPLink has the most dumbed down apprach to network management and settings. Virtually everything is behind their app, the IoT network feature is insurecure, MLO breaks most smart devices, all parental controls is behind a paywall (same as netgear) and they lack any advanced controls for users and have no ability to use OpenWRT or DDWRT. I regret buying mine but quite frankly there are no good options in ther market unless one shells out $2000 for an Orbi 973.
