Nice price but these require a dedicated amplifier

This is a good price for quality neutral sounding headphones. I've had a pair for 11 years. I appreciate how repairable they are with lots of 3rd party options on pads and cables.

I picked up a pair of these a couple years ago and have only used them a handful of times. The sound is no doubt "reference", but it's too flat and boring compared to other flat sets. I'm not a basshead, but I like a little rumble on songs that call for it, but without eq these miss the mark on most recordings. They're supposed to be known for mids but there's no sparkle or luster in voices. Guitars and pianos do sound great, but that's about their only highlight for me.

For comparison, I had a pair of Sennheiser 598 about a decade ago that sounded much better to my ears. For a flat sound, I appreciate my Hifiman He6 and Anandas much more than the 600's. Also the 600's are very light, but they start to hurt my head after 2 hours or so. (pressure points)

Didn't like my pair of Sennheiser 6XX as I'm not a fan of headphones 'designed' so other people can hear what you're listening to. Bus rides pre pandemic were less fun until I got a pair of Sony's.

These are intended to be used at home.
"designed so other people can hear" no, it is designed for acoustic needs.
If the headphone does match your needs, choose a different pair and move on.

Open-back headphones are meant for private listening. The HD600 in particular is meant for professional mixing and mastering engineers to use in a studio. Open-back headphones are optimal for this, while 99% of all closed-back designs are not appropriate. Open-backs and IEMs are for isolation.
