They've since fixed it by putting either a bracket or shims in the box (didn't really pay attention) but it scared me off until the tech is better or they do an actual revision.
My AC doesn't need to look clean where it's installed or that may sway me to the U Shaped but I bought the 8000 of this from BJ's and it's been rock solid.

Sealing the units comes with their own unique problem. The side curtains are a little more straightforward to seal with tape and foam board but it just looks ugly. The U is more of a pain in the butt to properly seal underneath and between the window bracket as well as small gaps between the unit and plastic fold-down arms.
Anyway, buy whatever one is cheaper or works best for your setup.
