Great price but lots of reviews say it developed holes after the first wash.

With an instruction like this, I doubt people were following it to wash wool.

Stuff like Smartwool usually has something like Nylon in it to increase durability. I would never put 100% merino wool in the washing machine - always hand wash with a detergent made for wool but also merino doesn't need to be washed frequently like cotton.

I bought 5x last time they were 29.99, buying 5x again, only one has a hole and I think I developed that while hiking through some thick brush - otherwise these are terrific, I usually wear another t-shirt over top of them if i'm in thick brush, they make a most excellent wicking layer and offer pretty solid sun protection.
