RIDGID introduces the 6 Amp Corded 6-1/8 in. Jointer/Planer. Durably made, it features a heavy-duty induction motor that is totally enclosed to help prevent sawdust contamination. Considerably quiet for its 1 HP motor, it makes smooth cuts safely with the assist of a blade guard and push blocks. Its versatile dual bevel fence features stops at 45 degree , 90 degree , and 135 degree . The tool sits atop a rugged, wide-stance cabinet with on-board storage for blade alignment tools and accessories. A long, handy, 45 in. tabletop gives greater support to large pieces. Backed by the Industry Leading Lifetime Service Agreement, the 6 Amp 6-1/8 in. Jointer/Planer includes a steel cabinet and an operator's manual.

Excellent find my dude. Might need to clear out some space in the garage for this bad boy.

IMO $1100 retail is crazy. $550 for a new unit is a pretty good price but I'd suggest looking for a used 6" jointer which can usually be found for way less than $550. They are fairly simple machines and as long as the beds are coplanar, not pitted from rust, and the motor works they're generally fine.

Even if pitted from rust, it won't affect the tool and the functionality of their use as long as they're collateral and have a decent motor like you suggested.

A cast iron tool with rust/pitting often means I'm going to be able to talk their price down.

I swear when I was thinking about this the price was closer to $750-800?

Why? This gets delivered for free at $550, no messing with picking things up or figuring out how to get it home. And it's brand new. No brainer if you are looking for a 6" short bed. Nobody wants some else's junk for barely anything less

This is a decent home gamer unit. I put a shelix head in mine, it's a worthwhile improvement. You'll want a mobility base too, although this isn't all that heavy.

How can a jointer also act as a planer?

I acknowledged $550 is a pretty good price for a new unit, but as for why? I bought a used Ridgid jointer with the same specs for $200. All I had to do was hit it with a scotch brite pad and paste wax it. If it is someone else's junk then don't buy it. If it is in decent condition then it isn't junk and can save you quite a bit of money. To each their own.

This isn't a true "combo" unit like they have in Europe with the planer below. They are just saying that anything you do on a face of the board is "planing" and "jointing" is on the edge of the board.
