Also, if a new line is activated via Verizon, this same combo can be had for $134.99+tax. For that, refer to the following additional steps:
1. Add the lively sim kit as mentioned
2. For the phone, add it with the option "we will help you connect with a carrier". Choose Verizon and then new number (you can also choose to transfer a number but given that you are going to cancel it first thing new number is better).
3. Go through checkout and fill out verizon related info. Note down the account PIN you used as you might need it later during cancellation.
4. You can pick the phone up in the store. After pickup, setup verizon account with the new phone number.
5. Chat with CS to cancel the account. Activation fee is waived if cancelled within 3 days.
6. The phone is factory unlocked, sealed and ready to be used with any provider.

Personally, I don't do these activation deals at Best Buy but people have had better experiences. If you can make it work for yourself, its a great device for $135, especially being unlocked.

I have this phone it's great! I've owned it for about a year now. It's not as fast as the Motorola Razr+ but it's still plenty fast for me!

Not sure if I follow your question but if you are asking about "Activating with Verizon" option, you can buy the phone following the instructions I listed. It's recommended to choose store pickup as that will be faster, in some cases, same day within a couple of hours. as soon as you get the device and line activated, you can call Verizon to cancel the line. you will effectively be paying just $135+tax for the phone and the lively sim kit + pro-rated charges for Verizon sim (a day or 2). Verizon should also waive the activation fee if cancelled within 3 days.
Apart from this, AFAIK there is no way to avoid the activation and cancellation loop and get the unlocked phone cheaper.

Website gives option to connect with both Verizon and AT&T for the lower price. Any particular reason you only mentioned Verizon or it'll work with AT&T just fine?

edit: actually only Verizon gives discount. going with att doesnt give lower price.

Because I have no knowledge on ATT's process. Neither have I seen any threads here on SD on exact steps to follow for that. With Verizon I have first hand experience doing this previously.

I am not sure if the same steps will work with ATT and do not want to provide incorrect information.

Happy to be corrected

Intriguing! I'm curious as to what happens with the lively sim kit if you do the Verizon connect/cancel thing -- do you still get it and can it be used with this phone/another phone?
Seems like BB/Verizon would put up roadblocks against this strategy. I wonder why not ...?
Edit: Lively sim kit you linked to showing as unavailable for either pickup or shipping, and no description. Maybe it's add-on only?

I've been using this phone for over a year. I switched from a Pixel 6a simply because I wanted the 256GB of storage. The phone itself performs fine, but if the camera is a factor in your choice, I'd say pass. I'm already wanting a different phone, mainly because the camera sucks compared to my old Pixel. It has issues focusing, even on pro mode. Pictures are always blurry. This phone also has taught me why I should avoid screens with curved edges. You cannot find a good screen protector. Your options are a solid one that has issues staying attached, or a flimsy one which only helps prevent scratches and will eventually start to peal up at the edges.

It would not let me check out with Verizon unless we select a plan, and the cheapest option is "Unlimited Welcome" at $75. Will that amount and the activation fee be refunded too, or am I missing something here?

Yes you have to choose a plan but since you will cancel it after activation you will only be charged a pro-rated amount under $5 for a couple of days of usage - sometimes even that is waived ... subject to Verizon rep YMMV. Please refer to detailed step by step instructions on OP

Do we need to use the prepaid card to activate it on Metro so they don't charge extra after cancellation?

It is factory unlocked. You don't need to use it at all.

It looks like Verizon is asking for the SSN to perform verification and credit checks. I'm not sure it's worth it, since we might end up on their blacklist if we cancel before using their service and in agreement its written we need to pay full price if we cancel the service.
