The Xbox Series X is still valued for strong backward compatibility, Play Anywhere support, and the convenience of cloud saves across Xbox and PC. It also pairs well with a decent PC through the Xbox app, and some prefer it over other consoles for more consumer friendly features. The main knocks are price and timing, with this $546 deal called expensive compared with past purchases and cheaper promos. There is also hesitation around waiting for Project Helix or Black Friday, and concern about the long term reliability of a used disc drive.

  • The Xbox ecosystem can support Play Anywhere and standard cloud saves, which helps with cross-device convenience.

  • Back-compat on Xbox can be a practical advantage for players who want older games to keep working.

  • A spare USB3 HDD or SSD can be used for legacy games, which can reduce storage pressure on a smaller internal drive.

  • Executable Xbox Series games can be moved between external storage and the console as needed, which can help manage limited space.

  • The deal price can feel overpriced compared with past purchases that included a game bundle or employee discounts.

  • Hard drive swapping can be difficult and not user-friendly, which can make upgrades or maintenance frustrating.

  • Stock availability can be a problem, since Xbox deals may not be in stock anywhere when buyers try to purchase.

  • A four-year-old disc drive may face longevity concerns due to possible dirt, dust, or pet hair buildup.

I remember i purchased new at Amazon for $349 few years ago and returned it since didn't understand the modern games concept. Amazing how prices traveled up recently.

Yeah, this is crazy. I bought this same model for $349 from a slickdeal found on this site completely on a whim as a Christmas present to myself in 2023. I'm so glad I did a big electronics upgrade spree 2024-2025. Phones, desktops, laptops, and tablets all got replaced. It would be double to triple price to do the same thing now.
It's ridiculous, they see some greed, fake, Ai train, then everyone who isn't even involved wants to screw consumers over.

What's a compelling game for Xbox now?
nothing. I literally bought an xbox to play halo, but halo sucks now and Microsoft went all out on the "everything is an xbox". I'm out. lol

I play on all platforms but going forward, any platform locking bacic fearures like cloud saves behind a paywall will not be getting my money. Sony and Nintendo are prime examples of this. I don't care about console sales or specifications. I care about pro consumer features and currently PC and Xbox are delivering them. Sure, I'll be missing some platform exclusives but honestly, it doesn't matter anymore. There are more game than available time these days, unlike olden days
XBOX is also the company that doesn't ship games on disc anymore... even SONY and NINTENDO still do that
there's nothing more pro consumer than physical media you own

I feel bad. XBOX seems to be the only console that is battling itself. XBOX 1st party games are also released on the superior PC platform. Game devs owned by Microsoft are competing with Gamepass for sales. I picked up the Xbox when it was $350 w/ a free copy of Diablo IV because it was such a good price but it mostly collects dust as I prefer playing games on my PC.

What's the point? I really wanted an Xbox again and waited for a deal around Christmas, but not only didn't it happen, they weren't in stock anywhere! I spent some time researching how difficult it would be to swap out the hard drive, and it's a nightmare. Why would they intentionally annoy people and not make it user friendly? I haven't played a Halo game since I owned a 360 and was looking forward to it. It doesn't matter anyway, because Halo is coming to the PS5. The people they hired to run Xbox are incapable of giving gamers what they want. I honestly don't know who did a worse job of destroying a brand, Disney with Star Wars or Microsoft with Xbox. These people are the definition of idiots.

Yes, physical availability is pro consumer. However, it's a whopping 15% of player base that benefit this on Sony and 50% on Nintendo. The numbers get lower each year. Cloud saves are literally used by everyone on every platform. When Sony and Nintendo gate it with paywalls, that's far more anti consumer.

Look, no company is perfect but when looking at the grand scheme of things, PC and XBOX are less anti consumer hands down

Wow, these console prices are insane. I actually slightly regretted getting one at Target for ~$270 a few years back.

"Cloud saves are literally used by everyone on every platform"
that is factually untrue since not everyone pays for the subscription service that allows for cloud saves.... in fact the majority of console users don't pay for them
I do agree putting saves behind a paywall is some insanely anticonsumer BS but both of our issues don't matter the biggest market on the consoles, the casual market

I personally believe console gamers not being able to use cloud save is not by choice or they don't care, casuals or not. They'd use it if it's free because it only makes sense to have backup saves in case sh*t happens to their devices. On Steam/Epic/Xbox/Windows Store, everyone uses it, so it'd be the same if Sony and Nintendo don't gate keep it.

"Steam/Epic/Xbox/Windows Store, everyone uses it"
because it's automatic....... reality is the 2 top selling platforms are the ones with locked cloudsaves, because vast majority of people don't have a use for them until they have to change their box MANY YEARS LATER and you can swap saves so long as the 2 boxes are on the same network . They buy their box, play games, continue with their lives.
even GOG will give you actual DRM free games but STEAM is much more popular because it has features people do care about on PC, like the entire controller configuration and community profiles
both our issues are on the minority and people just have to make a choicer (i chose PC and used nintendo and PS5 for the few exclusives)

I am holding out thinking around June Showcase new boss will announce a slash in price to try and reel in some new customers prior to the next gen consoles. Seems logical, no?Sitting on 20% off a Target just ready to pounce!
It's more likely to increase in price given the supply shortage due to AI
