Looks like a great deal. Anyone have experience with this specific EVSE?
edit: Looks like only the hard-wired version is on sale. Coupon doesn't work on NEMA 14-50 version.
OP, could you either modify the title or add to the description?
You can always DIY the plug yourself, it's more than likely only 3 cables (Hot hot ground) - you can get a one from Home Despot for $15-20 bucks, FYI

just get an extension..
Not sure whyu the downvote. I have a J1772 extension and it works fine. Less than 1V voltage drop.

"50A hardwire should be installed on a circuit breaker rated at 70A or greater"
The issue is that the National Electrical Code (NEC) requires that a continuous load should not exceed 80% of the rating of electrical equipment. This means that a NEMA 14-50 receptacle with a 50A breaker and 8GA THHN is fine for a 50A intermittent load like a welder but is only is good for a continuous load of 40A. The NEC defines a continuous load as any electrical draw expected to run continuously for 3 hours or longer. Examples include EV chargers, pool pumps, and electric space heaters.

Hardwired is 3-wire while NEMA 14-50 is 4-wire. Also I'm almost certain those plugs are not EV rated.

NEMA 6-50 is Hot Hot Ground.

As for the EV rating, I know the receptacle can be EV rated, I wasn't aware that the plug can be EV-rated as well, huh

Recepticle has to be EV rated because they may melt under continuous load and start a fire. I don't see how it would be any other way for the plug.

I'm not disagreeing with you, I just don't see a 14-50 plug, so I've been using the 14-50 from the Despot.

No issues so far, not to say there won't be any issues

All things considered, putting a pigtail on this hard wire isn't complicated or dangerous if you don't take shortcuts. It isn't like creating a suicide cord or anything...leviton sells the plugs for like $25. A Bryant will cost quite a bit more.

Your main issue after that is going to be dealing with double GFCI, since NEC now (as of a few years ago) requires the protection on the breaker end...and all EVSEs have their own protection already built into themselves. You'll get a lot of trips as they fight each other...but if you hardwire, this is a non issue (NEC drops the GFCI breaker requirement here) hence why hardwire is more popular now for new installs.

Not UL certified. It is CSA certified, which is odd that they didn't also obtain the UL cert. Do what you want with that, but I'm not personally buying anything that can carry this much juice without the UL.
Be careful of even the listings that do show certifications. One of the more novel things that I've found is that a large number would claim ETL or UL certifications, but if you review the cert number, it would be for a high voltage cable. Reverse the search for that same applicant and it'll show that they would only be certified for that cable and other random electrical stuff like rated electrical housing, but not a high voltage EV charger.

I think 25ft is max per code, that's why most are 25 footers. It has been a while since I took a look at that though so I may wrong, but I semi-recall that fact.
That's mostly the case. 16-20ft is the acceptable working length with an absolute max length of 25ft being allowed by NEC. European standards allow for slightly longer, IIRC. NEC does allow for longer lengths IF the entire system has an integrated cable management built-in which most don't, but also why you could possibly find commercial charger installations that have longer cabling.

A lot of companies list their products as UL or CSA or whatever certified and steal the number. A lot of those products get posted as deals here.
That said, EVSEs are an easy product to design. 50 amps or 20 amps, all they really do is let AC power run through and do some basic communication with the car. The "smart" versions just add failure points, but hopefully it can disable the "smart" features. All the AC to DC conversion happens in the actual charger inside the vehicle, unless you are talking DC fast charging, which is usually 3-phase and not worth doing at home or in most locations or for more people. If you have busy EV taxi and limo company, totally worth it.

That's good to know, 50amp breakers are ~$130 for GFCI vs non $30
