The saw works fine on the 4 amp hour batteries. I have used it for years. I have on occasion used it with a 2 amp hour if I have a few smaller cuts.
Its a very small saw not meant for large things.

Seems like a great deal if you need batteries and have a 6ah+. Not sure how a 4ah battery would work on a miter saw

Cordless 7-1/4 in. Compound Miter Saw.

Miter saw is tiny. You are basically buying batteries and a very limited use saw.

Seems nice for that use tho to not have to plug in the bigger one for quick stuff

I have this saw and can use any size battery, but I can't cut all the way through a 2x4 with it.

I plan to not have this saw much longer...

Nice for millwork. 3 batteries and a charger are a plus.

Funny, I was thinking exactly the opposite — nice batteries, the saw is a plus.

On one battery? Vertically? At an angle? This seems like something's wrong with yours if so.

Why are people giving a thumbs-down to guys like this who give their honest assessment of a saw that can't completely cut through a 2x4?

A few things:
I have the sliding compound 7.25" version of this. I also have a Hitachi 10" and the Dewalt 779 12" sliding double compound, and I jump to this 7.25" when I need small cuts and don't feel like moving the other two. I would highly recommend paying a few extra bucks for the sliding version, though. This non sliding version is very limited in it's use.
It cuts through 2x4's perfectly fine. I have used the 4ah, 4ah HP, and 6ah HP batteries with no discernible performance difference between them. I upgraded the factory blade to an aftermarket finer tooth one. Cuts are precise, but won't be as precise or fast as the $600 Dewalt.
As with any miter saw, when you first set it up, use a right angle to align the blade with both sides of the fence.

The limited uses would include door and window casings, regular base-board, quarter-round, shoe-molding, brick-edge, picture frames, 1x2s and 2x4s. Pretty much everything that I ever use a miter saw for.

bc it CAN completely cut through a 2x4. If they can't get the saw to do what it's capable of doing, they should be assessing their own abilities, not the saw's.
