This Mini 5 Pro deal centers on a brand new, sealed drone at a sharp AliExpress price, with several reports of units arriving legit and unopened around the low 600s. The appeal is the drone itself and the chance to get it locally shipped or with free returns within 90 days. The main cautions are AliExpress aftersales support, which can be slow or costly, and the bundle is basic with only one battery and a simple controller. US buyers also need to watch registration and import issues, since many units weigh over 249 grams and may not be treated as a true sub 250 gram mini.

The issue is these are not US market drones, mine was meant for Australian market. DJI does not offer service or repair for non-US market drones for US customers at this time unless they have an address in Canada to ship/receive the drone. DJI claims to not have the repair capacity for non US market repairs due to tariffs, etc. I have parts on the way from AliExpress
All drones require TRUST, Part 107 for all uses outside of pure recreation. I wish it was more flexible. The real danger is idiots flying over wildfires, beaches, roadways, etc. They will end up ruining this for all of us.
Everyone should know as of recently (last few months), everything has changed as far as drone enforcement is concerned. The days of "no one is watching" are gone. Now is to time to get your sh*t together and get into compliance. Don't say we didn't warn you.
That's not true either. All DJI products with FCC certification are good to fly in the US but if a DJI drone, any DJI drone is intercepted at the border and found to be in violation of the Forced Labor Act, it will be denied entry. It's not by model, it's by DJI. This has been in effect for nearly 2 years.

This is pretty evident from the earlier post where some US residents are not getting timely responses or tracking numbers for their USPS shipment. While I don't know exactly how the process works, it's pretty clear the drones are first shipped from China where they are handed off to USPS when they arrive stateside. Kinda looks like the package is shipping from Illinois or California or Kentucky but in reality, you don't get to see the full tracking when you deal with USPS sometimes. Hence, "shipped from the US."
Primarily, this "process" instills some trust in the buyer that his shipment is not going to get snagged in customs and that his shipment will arrive pretty quickly. In reality, the chances of a shipment get stuck in customs is very low (because shippers are not honest with their declarations) and in reality, some shipments from China arrive faster than shipments from New York anyway. So the seller wins on both points.
Secondarily, some (not everyone) buyers believe they are buying from (authorized) US merchants with US warranties and are able to process returns domestically. In reality, these drones come from China so they have no US warranty and there are no authorized DJI sellers in the US and returns to Ali (and from their sellers) are all pretty much the same. Sellers are banking on the fact that 99% of DJI sales are worry-free. The buyers believe these drones are fraught but they are far from it. Seller wins, again.
What we absolutely don't know is if your particular drone order is shipped from China once you order it or is it pulled from an available stock of pre-positioned drones in a US warehouse and the inventory closely monitored and replenished as necessary. In the event the units are o-o-s then you just have to wait a bit longer. Click on the delivery link for wait times and you'll see "some" take weeks. Either way, the customer is never on the hook for customs but if you can be made to feel better about it, this is a win for sellers. Again I don't know this for sure but certainly sellers have figured out a clever way to get a bunch of DJI drones into the US in bulk without customs issues.
Bottom line is DJI drones are not banned and customers are allowed to buy them and activate them and fly them in the US. Only customs will have an issue with the importer who tries to cross the border with anything that says "DJI" but only if they can spot it....that's about it, for now.
