This Switch 2 bundle is mainly a way to get the console plus a redeemable choice of one game, with the code scratched off in the box and redeemed in the Switch 2 store. The strongest appeal is convenience for buyers who already want the hardware, especially for Mario Kart World, Pokemon Pokopia, or other Switch 2 play. It also works with existing Switch games, and the console can be bought through Nintendo using eShop funds. The main knock is value, since the bundle is often described as only about $20 cheaper than buying separately, with some concern about the higher $500 price and limited launch library.

  • Players who want broad Switch game compatibility, because it runs most physical and digital Switch 1 titles and still supports physical copies for some new games.

  • Families buying for Mario Kart World play, because the open-world mode gives kids something to explore and the bundle includes a redeemable game choice.

  • Buyers planning to redeem a digital game later, because the box includes a code that lets you choose one of three games.

  • Pokemon Pokopia fans who want a handheld system, because the bundle suits a game-first purchase and the ARM-based console is easier to carry than heavier x86 handhelds.

  • Handheld gamers sensitive to battery life, because the battery is described as worse than the previous generation and the larger screen uses more power.

  • Players who want a large launch library, because the Switch 2 still has few games that fully use its hardware and upgrade support can be slow.

  • Buyers worried about reliability, because overheating in dock mode has been reported and some are waiting for a refreshed design instead.

  • Parents shopping for a first portable console for a child, because the $500 price is hard to justify compared with the cheaper Switch 1 many bought for under $200.

Just bought Mario kart 8 deluxe for the switch original, plays great, kids love it. Dont see why the upgrade is necessary.
Personally my biggest pet peeve with Switch 1.0 or 1.1 is the laggy UI.

What are YOU talking about? Yes, it set records at launch but that is only part of the picture. Sales have been going downward since.

Weak Holiday 2025 sales coupled with lower projection rates (previously thought higher) are spearheading this downward trend. Bloomberg reported that Nintendo (in early May this year) are selling the Switch2 consoles at a loss; opposite of the 1st Switch era). Their stock is also on the decline.

Even Nintendo admits Switch2 sales are bad.....

but thanks for showing us who the nintendo superfanboy is in the room!
PS5 came out 6.5 years ago and just passed 90 million units sold. Switch 2 hasnt been out for a year, with no major 1st party releases, and already has moved 20 million. Ive never seen an anti-Nintendo hater on Slickdeals before so I have to hand it to you, your bitterness and hatred towards the company is a sight to behold. Usually the people that complain the loudest about a deal are the ones that can't afford it. So less typing, more working, maybe you too can one day have disposable income so you dont have to count other people's money and tell them what they should or should not buy

too much platform competition for developers to focus on now. I'm not that excited over the Switch2 releases. But then again, it's slow on all fronts.

and yes, I'm aware that RE9 and Pragmata came out. Those aren't even console exclusive as you can get it for any platform, which makes you question why go switch 2 unless you already have it?
I know folks who are considering buying a Switch 2 purely for Pokemon Pokopia. This is a pretty good deal for them.

Also, if playing handheld or on-the-go, I find the ARM-based Switch 2 to be the better option. The PlayStation Portal is basically just a streaming machine dependent on low latency internet connection while the x86-based handhelds are too heavy and bulky (I have a Steam Deck and Z1E ROG Ally).

I know x86 emulation is already possible with apps like Winlator, GameNative and GameHub, and progress is being made porting Steam to Android. I'm looking forward to more progress on this front. In the meantime, I'm happy playing my cozy games on the Switch 2.

My kid had a lot fun just exploring the open world in Mario Kart World, but that's been the only real Switch 2 exclusive we've played.

Save $50 more by buying Costco eshop cards. Two of the $200 (@$180) and a $100 (@90) then add to your eshop account and the purchase the bundle from the Nintendo site.

I've tried different credit cards but my online gift card orders at Costco always end up getting cancelled by Costco. I don't get any fraud alerts and I see the pending charges on my credit card account but Costco always end up still canceling the orders for some reason. 🤷 ♀️

This.

With Mario Kart World not adding much beyond 8 and Smash/Mario Party being hard to top without a revamp, Nintendo set a bar so high it's hard for them to clear it without going in a totally different direction - like they did from GC to Wii and from Wii-U to Switch. Or going from Skyward Sword to Breath of the Wild (roam anywhere) and BotW to Tears of the Kingdom (building stuff).

Nintendo is at its best when it's a innovator. Its biggest hits have been revolutions, not evolutions.

Switch 2 evolves the Switch just ecosystem a little further, but it will fundamentally run into the same issues as the Switch - underpowered hardware relative to what other consoles can do and now it has crappy battery life on top of it.

Not saying I won't upgrade eventually but why all these fan girls are throwing a fit at someone finding fault with Nintendo's strategy is beyond me. Sounds like the people that bought into Wii U and are made when Nintendo abandoned it after half of the Wii's lifespan. Nintendo zealots who will buy Shigeru's used toilet paper rolls can't fathom why someone would wait to buy into the new console.

To those who want to be first in line, have at it! You're paying top dollar to be a beta tester but you get the joy of being first to enjoy a console/game! If I advocate for the rest of us who haven't jumped on board yet to wait it out - with the assumption that Nintendo will eventually be motivated to improve it somehow to entice people to buy into it, does it impact you playing DK or Pokopia a couple years before us?

Keep in mind that switch came out with a v2 after a year or two with improved battery life. With the Switch 2's battery life as crappy as it is and the expectation that an OLED will come eventually, I'm with the wait crowd. Yeah, perhaps price will be higher but my hope is to get more bang for my buck than buying a console that's 1 step forward (graphics) and two half steps backward (battery, screen).

Couldn't agree more.

There really aren't enough games on the Switch 2 to justify the $500 cost. The original Switch was $300. Even with inflation, the new device should have been closer to $400. So the fact the switch 2 is going to be 66.6% more expensive makes this an even tougher sell especially since they're going to have revised versions later, likely with an OLED in the future.

Yikes. Gaming's getting out of reach.
If you adjust for inflation this is still cheaper than a ps2 was on release. PS2 was $300, which is equivalent to $580 now. Just food for thought.

I will eventually want to play the new Mario and possible Zelda remakes. But I'm on the fence with Switch 2. I still enjoy my Switch OLED.
