This Switch 2 bundle is mainly a way to get the console plus a redeemable choice of one game, with the code scratched off in the box and redeemed in the Switch 2 store. The strongest appeal is convenience for buyers who already want the hardware, especially for Mario Kart World, Pokemon Pokopia, or other Switch 2 play. It also works with existing Switch games, and the console can be bought through Nintendo using eShop funds. The main knock is value, since the bundle is often described as only about $20 cheaper than buying separately, with some concern about the higher $500 price and limited launch library.
Common Questions (5)
It works out to about $20 in savings versus buying the console and game separately, so it is closer to a fair-price bundle than a deep discount. Some shoppers can lower the effective price further with discounted eShop cards or cashback offers.
The box includes a scratch-off code that you enter in the Switch 2 store to pick one of three games. The code can be redeemed on the console, and the selected game is then tied to your account or hardware depending on the bundle variant.
Yes, the bundle can be purchased directly from Nintendo using eShop funds, and the U.S. purchase limit mentioned is $800. That makes discounted eShop cards a practical way to shave a bit off the total if you already buy digital credit.
Yes, it plays compatible physical and digital Nintendo Switch games. Most Switch 1 titles work, with exceptions mainly for games that require physical peripherals like Labo or Ring Fit.
Yes, physical copies exist for some Switch 2 games, including Cyberpunk and first-party Nintendo titles. Many other releases are key cards instead of full cartridges, so the game may not be fully on the cart.

If you have a Switch 1 nearly all games are compatible, well north of 15,000 games physical and digital. Most of the ones that aren't required physical peripherals like Labo or Ring Fit that don't fit the new system or it's controllers. A small amount of games get Switch 2 editions which improve upon the Switch 1 game from a little bit (Red Dead Redemption) to the point it's like a whole different game (No Man's Sky). Both of those were free. Nintendo usually charges for their upgrades if they add much new content. From the rumors a new general direct is weeks away. See what gets announced there.

Nintendo has survived against superior graphical might from MS and Sony by changing how people play games (some duds, and some n64/Wii/Switch 1 moments) and promoting local gameplay, with the only "new" thing about the switch being mouse control and local gameplay starting to disappear (a la Star Fox remaster missing its original 4 player mode).
With Sony and MS now selling handhelds, what reason is there to invest in Nintendo outside their few first party franchises? Buy a $500 console just so I can play Mario, Smash, Kart, Pokemon, and Zelda?
Nintendo needs to keep dancing to its own tune rather than trying to keep up with other competitors, who also only release iterative consoles with better graphics (relative to the last generation and relative to Nintendo's current and even future generation if it keeps this trajectory).

Unfortunately, many game devs are only releasing game key cards instead of the full game on cartridge.
Weak Holiday 2025 sales coupled with lower projection rates (previously thought higher) are spearheading this downward trend. Bloomberg reported that Nintendo (in early May this year) are selling the Switch2 consoles at a loss; opposite of the 1st Switch era). Their stock is also on the decline.
Even Nintendo admits Switch2 sales are bad.....
but thanks for showing us who the nintendo superfanboy is in the room!
whatyou say is in regards to USA. it's typical black and white commenting in the internet where something isn't good, it's just complete ass. The Switch 2 didn't do as great as Nintendo projected, but it wasn't horrible by any means. Japan had such a strong number in sales and it blew up recently since the price hike is within a week or a few days in that country. But the userbase being crazy in Japan means nearly all the Japanese third party developers are pouring all their resources into making games for the Switch 2. Even if the console adoption rate is not as great in USA, the games are still going to come pouring in from Japan.
The previous generations were able to drop prices on consoles as they aged during their cycle because first party companies took advantage of Economies of Scale when a product is manufactured so much in the millions that they pass a part of those savings to the consumer with the console parts (a mini or slim version) sold cheaper. This is something the Valve Steam Machine will probably never achieve (Steam Deck supposedly sold just short of 4 million units). So think 100 million PS2s eventually make the console juts $129 from the launch price of $299. Today, first party companies can't afford to pass on those savings to the consumer so they stick to their console prices from launch. I think the last time I saw a console company dropped prices was the PS4 and the last time I saw a system sold at a lost is the Steam Deck 64GB variant, by a company who doesn't even compete in the living room entertainment. It's good advice to say don't wait and buy a console now because waiting just to get $50 or $30 savings on a console doesn't make sense if you want to play games as they release. I don't believe modern day consoles will just keep going up in price for the future. We may have one more price hike to products, but I expect the prices to come back to MSRP before their life cycle ends (but never ever going below MSRP by official pricing). Got to take advantage of Slickdeals for prices before MSRP through retailers!
and yes, I'm aware that RE9 and Pragmata came out. Those aren't even console exclusive as you can get it for any platform, which makes you question why go switch 2 unless you already have it?
