This Switch 2 bundle is mainly a way to get the console plus a redeemable choice of one game, with the code scratched off in the box and redeemed in the Switch 2 store. The strongest appeal is convenience for buyers who already want the hardware, especially for Mario Kart World, Pokemon Pokopia, or other Switch 2 play. It also works with existing Switch games, and the console can be bought through Nintendo using eShop funds. The main knock is value, since the bundle is often described as only about $20 cheaper than buying separately, with some concern about the higher $500 price and limited launch library.
Buying the bundle through Nintendo using eShop funds can reduce the effective cost with discounted Costco eShop cards.
The bundle includes a scratch-off code that lets you choose one game from three options in the Switch 2 store.
Switch 2 can play compatible physical and digital Nintendo Switch games.
The bundle redemption code reportedly does not show an expiration in the scratch-off process.
The bundle price may feel weak because savings are reportedly only around $20 versus buying the console and game separately.
Redeeming the bundle via eShop credits may be limited by purchase caps, which can restrict how much of the $499.99 amount can be loaded.
The bundle's one-game code information can be hard to find and may require looking it up before redemption.
Overheating in dock mode can occur multiple times, and repair videos may suggest capacitor failures on the main board.

Weak Holiday 2025 sales coupled with lower projection rates (previously thought higher) are spearheading this downward trend. Bloomberg reported that Nintendo (in early May this year) are selling the Switch2 consoles at a loss; opposite of the 1st Switch era). Their stock is also on the decline.
Even Nintendo admits Switch2 sales are bad.....
but thanks for showing us who the nintendo superfanboy is in the room!
and yes, I'm aware that RE9 and Pragmata came out. Those aren't even console exclusive as you can get it for any platform, which makes you question why go switch 2 unless you already have it?
Also, if playing handheld or on-the-go, I find the ARM-based Switch 2 to be the better option. The PlayStation Portal is basically just a streaming machine dependent on low latency internet connection while the x86-based handhelds are too heavy and bulky (I have a Steam Deck and Z1E ROG Ally).
I know x86 emulation is already possible with apps like Winlator, GameNative and GameHub, and progress is being made porting Steam to Android. I'm looking forward to more progress on this front. In the meantime, I'm happy playing my cozy games on the Switch 2.

With Mario Kart World not adding much beyond 8 and Smash/Mario Party being hard to top without a revamp, Nintendo set a bar so high it's hard for them to clear it without going in a totally different direction - like they did from GC to Wii and from Wii-U to Switch. Or going from Skyward Sword to Breath of the Wild (roam anywhere) and BotW to Tears of the Kingdom (building stuff).
Nintendo is at its best when it's a innovator. Its biggest hits have been revolutions, not evolutions.
Switch 2 evolves the Switch just ecosystem a little further, but it will fundamentally run into the same issues as the Switch - underpowered hardware relative to what other consoles can do and now it has crappy battery life on top of it.
Not saying I won't upgrade eventually but why all these fan girls are throwing a fit at someone finding fault with Nintendo's strategy is beyond me. Sounds like the people that bought into Wii U and are made when Nintendo abandoned it after half of the Wii's lifespan. Nintendo zealots who will buy Shigeru's used toilet paper rolls can't fathom why someone would wait to buy into the new console.
To those who want to be first in line, have at it! You're paying top dollar to be a beta tester but you get the joy of being first to enjoy a console/game! If I advocate for the rest of us who haven't jumped on board yet to wait it out - with the assumption that Nintendo will eventually be motivated to improve it somehow to entice people to buy into it, does it impact you playing DK or Pokopia a couple years before us?
Keep in mind that switch came out with a v2 after a year or two with improved battery life. With the Switch 2's battery life as crappy as it is and the expectation that an OLED will come eventually, I'm with the wait crowd. Yeah, perhaps price will be higher but my hope is to get more bang for my buck than buying a console that's 1 step forward (graphics) and two half steps backward (battery, screen).

There really aren't enough games on the Switch 2 to justify the $500 cost. The original Switch was $300. Even with inflation, the new device should have been closer to $400. So the fact the switch 2 is going to be 66.6% more expensive makes this an even tougher sell especially since they're going to have revised versions later, likely with an OLED in the future.

I will eventually want to play the new Mario and possible Zelda remakes. But I'm on the fence with Switch 2. I still enjoy my Switch OLED.
