I do recommend getting the stand if you can also afford that. You can also add weights to this as you progress vs being g stuck at the lower weights of many of the twist dials.
Community Reviews
PowerBlock EXP adjustable dumbbells are praised as a compact, durable alternative to twist dial sets, with a more natural curl position, quick weight changes, and easy expansion as strength increases. The stand gets strong support for keeping the weights off the floor, reducing bending, and making the setup feel more convenient over time. Main tradeoffs are the bulky cage, thicker rubber grips, and occasional awkwardness for curls or small hands. Compatibility for bars and some expansion kits is limited, so future add ons need checking.
The stand adds long-term convenience by keeping extra plates staged and reducing repeated bending.
The dumbbells can hold up well over years of near-daily use without functional issues.
The EXP design lets users hold the dumbbells closer for a more natural curl motion.
The weight system supports quick switching by leaving adder weights in and using fixed rep increments.
The rubber grip thickness can feel too bulky and may rub a watch on the cage during some movements.
The weight selectors may not line up consistently on carpet, and picking the dumbbells up from the ground can feel unpleasant.
The straight bar attachment experience can be disappointing due to bar rotation and awkward weight distribution.
The EXP setup may not support certain barbell-style staging options because hooks cannot be used to stage them off a bar.

99% sure, but others can chime in.
I understand your logic but most overambitious / ego people will avoid the difficulty of dumbbells because they feel unstable and it's harder. That doesn't feed the ego as well. I'm guessing you see the outliers in your profession.
FYI, I got my bicep tendonitis the old fashion way in the gym vs with my heavy dubells 🤣. Body weight dips for the win/fail. Getting older and not realizing its impacts in conjunction with less time to train regularly was my blind spot. Brain remembers how to go like your 20 but your not. 1.5 years later I'm back to heavy lifting. I think I owe some of my new stability and rehab with mostly dumbbells because it forces more stabilization, that and the age learning curve. Slower, more stretching, more controlled.

I think the answer to that question is: No.

It's best to test both before buying. I would say the power block wold have less failure points than a dial style.
This power block it feels awkward holding onto it and the gap between the weights and the handle felt narrow. But th handle is wide enough for big hands
Powerblock is easier to expand if you go over the base 50 pounds, with dials, you need to buy a completely different set.
If you drop the dial, it would likely damage the mechanism. Powerblock is more durable.
Powerblock not good for curls.
Maybe youtube could have a video comparing them

As far as the stand goes, I did tons of research and ended up with the eisenlink adjustable dumbbell stand, the low one. You can step in between the weight and stand up and walk away, making it easier for heavyweight. This stand is awesome and looks cool at the same time although it does not have a built-in storage for the adder weights. Etsy has weight holders that are 3D printed you could add on to it or even enlarge the 1" frame holes with a hole saw or Dremel. Ultimately I chose this setup for durability and longevity and to last me forever.
