What PC spec did you have originally and what did you need to upgrade to?

The reviews for this unit aren't great (3.9 on Amazon). I guess you get what you pay for.

I had an older I5-1100 with no GPU, and I upgraded to an I7 with RTX 5050 GPU. It was time to upgrade for me.

Thanks. Looks like most machines with an integrated GPU will struggle. Have you successfully scanned and printed anything?

honestly, no -- I have successfully scanned, but I need to figure out how to clean it up before I can print. I need to remove the base that wasn't part of the object. I think it will be fine, I just haven't had the time.

This is another product that requires skill to use. You can use it out of the box but the model will require extensive work and cleanup and this is normal with a 3D scanner at this price point. People think they can just buy one of these and duplicate their cell phone with it like its a Star Trek device and they get mad and leave bad reviews. ! They work fine ! 3 years ago people were happy being able to hack a Playstation camera with 1/10th the resolution. Is it as good as a $5000 3D scanner NOPE and should it be?

Yeah, I get it. I've tried using Meshmixer and didn't make much headway. There's no substitute for having a good rendering to begin with. But then I have to ask, who can benefit from this product... or what scenarios is useful?

Welp did you use reflective dots on your model, did you use 3D scanning spray or talc powder? Getting a good rendering is also skill/knowledge based! if you have some odd shaped thing you need to build an attachment for you can either break out the micrometer and measure the part from 100 different angles or scan it clean up any stray readings and do it in 1/10 the time! People scan fittings for car parts there is an entire FB group dedicated to 3D scanning and 3D printing car parts! Just because a product requires some skill to use doesn't mean it isn't useful. You can hand me a $400000 guitar and am I gonna say it is junk because I can't play Through the Fire and Flames on it? You can hand me some uber paint brushes and canvas and the best product your going to get is some stick figures. In the right hands a tool is a tool you just can't expect every tool to be plug and play. Even if you don't have the skill to use it well you can skill 3D scan something and send the file to someone that can make what you are looking for from the scan. You can 3D scan your wife/girlfriend and make them into a bobble head. You can 3D scan yourself and add yourself to video games or make a avatar for VR chat IDK what your hobbies are to make up use cases for a product for you. I just feel like a lot of people ( including me) buy stuff that looks cool and don't realize that in order to use something like a 3D scanner you are undertaking an entire "new hobby" worth of products accessories ( turntable, 3d scan spray, reflective dots, ETC) as well as an entire hobby worth of required worth of knowledge. Some things ( especially Creality's products) are often marketed as easier to use than they are. People know if they buy a musical instrument or a model or set of golf clubs they are going to have to invest time and work and money into those things but they think they can just plop down $129 and scan a perfect part in 5 minutes. Mesh mixer is a software that people base entire careers on being able to use well Stick Out Tongue People go to 3D design school and get entire degrees in mesh mixer use!!

I have never used a scanning tool. I have used meshmixer to rework some simple STLs.

My question still stands. Who is going to invest all of the effort into creating scan models but only spend $130 on the hardware to do it? Seems like it's frustration just waiting to happen. If you take your guitar analogy, I would never advise a novice player to buy a crap instrument because it'll likely kill any interest they have in playing it.
