What PC spec did you have originally and what did you need to upgrade to?

The reviews for this unit aren't great (3.9 on Amazon). I guess you get what you pay for.

I had an older I5-1100 with no GPU, and I upgraded to an I7 with RTX 5050 GPU. It was time to upgrade for me.

Thanks. Looks like most machines with an integrated GPU will struggle. Have you successfully scanned and printed anything?

honestly, no -- I have successfully scanned, but I need to figure out how to clean it up before I can print. I need to remove the base that wasn't part of the object. I think it will be fine, I just haven't had the time.

This is another product that requires skill to use. You can use it out of the box but the model will require extensive work and cleanup and this is normal with a 3D scanner at this price point. People think they can just buy one of these and duplicate their cell phone with it like its a Star Trek device and they get mad and leave bad reviews. ! They work fine ! 3 years ago people were happy being able to hack a Playstation camera with 1/10th the resolution. Is it as good as a $5000 3D scanner NOPE and should it be?

Yeah, I get it. I've tried using Meshmixer and didn't make much headway. There's no substitute for having a good rendering to begin with. But then I have to ask, who can benefit from this product... or what scenarios is useful?

Welp did you use reflective dots on your model, did you use 3D scanning spray or talc powder? Getting a good rendering is also skill/knowledge based! if you have some odd shaped thing you need to build an attachment for you can either break out the micrometer and measure the part from 100 different angles or scan it clean up any stray readings and do it in 1/10 the time! People scan fittings for car parts there is an entire FB group dedicated to 3D scanning and 3D printing car parts! Just because a product requires some skill to use doesn't mean it isn't useful. You can hand me a $400000 guitar and am I gonna say it is junk because I can't play Through the Fire and Flames on it? You can hand me some uber paint brushes and canvas and the best product your going to get is some stick figures. In the right hands a tool is a tool you just can't expect every tool to be plug and play. Even if you don't have the skill to use it well you can skill 3D scan something and send the file to someone that can make what you are looking for from the scan. You can 3D scan your wife/girlfriend and make them into a bobble head. You can 3D scan yourself and add yourself to video games or make a avatar for VR chat IDK what your hobbies are to make up use cases for a product for you. I just feel like a lot of people ( including me) buy stuff that looks cool and don't realize that in order to use something like a 3D scanner you are undertaking an entire "new hobby" worth of products accessories ( turntable, 3d scan spray, reflective dots, ETC) as well as an entire hobby worth of required worth of knowledge. Some things ( especially Creality's products) are often marketed as easier to use than they are. People know if they buy a musical instrument or a model or set of golf clubs they are going to have to invest time and work and money into those things but they think they can just plop down $129 and scan a perfect part in 5 minutes. Mesh mixer is a software that people base entire careers on being able to use well Stick Out Tongue People go to 3D design school and get entire degrees in mesh mixer use!!

I have never used a scanning tool. I have used meshmixer to rework some simple STLs.

My question still stands. Who is going to invest all of the effort into creating scan models but only spend $130 on the hardware to do it? Seems like it's frustration just waiting to happen. If you take your guitar analogy, I would never advise a novice player to buy a crap instrument because it'll likely kill any interest they have in playing it.

ok so you just want to hate on this 3D scanner. OK It is for the people that do this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=diuOMDRtIMI, or https://www.reddit.com/r/3DScanni...ng_system/ or this guy https://www.facebook.com/groups/3...131294777/ I completely disagree with you, I bought a $99 guitar to learn on it has all of the frets and strings and of a $1000000 guitar yet I can play with it and see if it is something I want to get into long term or not before investing thousands! You just make zero sense to be honest literally every single hobby has entry level gear and that entry level gear sells. So there is a market for it. I can buy a $20 paint set to learn to paint or a There are entry level golf clubs, entry level sim racing wheels, entry level 3D printers, ETC AD Nauseum . Would you buy one of these for your 10 year old to learn on https://www.dickblick.com/items/f...pLowbe9ov0 ? or one of these https://www.amazon.com/PRINA-Sket...hdGY&psc=1 OK I'm done you obviously don't want listen or chat you just want to hate on something have a good one!

Relax dude! hug I freely admit to knowing nothing about this scanner other than the few reviews on Amazon, certainly not enough to hate it. There is good entry level equipment and there is crap. If I choose wisely I will have a better chance of success than if I blindly buy something because it's cheap. Some people who bought this are obviously less than happy. You seem to think it's their fault for whatever reasons. Thank you for one more opinion.

I only think that because I own one and I used it and I too discovered it is not take a photo and have a perfect 3D ready model I just happen to like learning new skills and was able to spend the time learning how to use it. Creality's marketing kind of sucks always has it was the same with their Ender 3 #d printers they looked like they were a paper printer in the brochure so people bought them thinking you could plug them in and hit print and end up with something cool they had no idea about bed leveling or adding supports or how to position a model so it has strength where you need strength. Those were perfectly fine 3D printers ( for their time)but they got a really bad reputation from people not knowing what they were doing and blasting them on the internet. I had an Anet A8 3D printer arguably the worst 3D printer ever made and I was able to learn hot to adjust things and set up prints and was able to get perfect prints out of one of those.
There are different types of 3D scanners this one uses dual cameras to take 3d photos then convert the images into a 3D model so it uses shadows and other things to detect depth. If you are looking at something large and plain like a car door or a door it won't work very well unless you add reflective dots to the item being scanned the same for all black items. fuzzy items that absorb light are also difficult. To get around these limitations you spray an all black item with a light powder like talc powder or even better you paint the item white. Lighting matters, the distance from the scanner matters, the rotation speed matters, how steady are you holding the scanner matters. So getting a turntable and a tripod helps with scanning. Also being able to import an model and edit it in meshmixer or autocad is a helpful skill. It is far far from a hit the button on the scanner and out comes a perfect model and this is what people expect. People are also super lazy these days. Go to any Facebook group for any product and 99 out of 100 questions asked are covered in the product manual or instruction video. On the 3D printing groups I am a member of I can't even count how many questions I have answered by just Googling the answer ( even though I know the answer) just to copy the text of the web page and paste it to the FB group. People have lost the ability to think for themselves or even to put forth the effort to Google answers for themselves so when I see complaints from people for products I have used and I understand require a set of skills to use successfully I just figure the skill issue is that the product problem is. Of course Chinese mass produced cheap products have some duds also but I think 90% of issues are user error. I always suggest people buy #d printers or any other mass produced Chinese goods from Walmart, Amazon, anywhere with a easy return policy because Creality has good customer service and will send you replacement parts but sometimes I don't want to spend 5 hours disassembling something to replace a motherboard on a product I just spent $1000 on ! I Relaxed It is just the internet so I assume 80 of people commenting aren't inquiring just trolling and my math checks out usually sorry about the wall of text slickdeals wont let me do paragraph breaks or indent so makes it a difficult read.

Guys guys, back to your corners

Thanks for posting this item. Yes it is not point and shoot and simple to use. If it was simple, and printing was simple, everyone would have one.

Good advice thank you.

I think you can get paragraphs with double line feeds, but it tends to eat them upon editing so ymmv.
