Is only one modem locked? Or the modem that was last active on the account? I switched to a different modem and want to change to new service with original modem. How long should I wait? 30-90 days sounds awfully long as I did something similar ~3 years ago and definitely didn't wait that long if I recall correctly
active Account X with modem x.
account x cancelled.

new sign up.
account y, can not use modem x for a period of time [30 or maybe 60 days]
and must use modem y

after 30 or 90 days. account y can use modem x

I guess another option would be to get the Xfinity modem on new account since it is free and then try switching to old modem. How long do you have to keep new modem? Returning is free? Does it affect anything like pricing if return it?
i would just use thier equipment for the entire time.
i dont see any cons in doing that.

i dont have any details on your other questions, althoug i dont think they can force u to use their equipment

You can signup for this as existing customer. I signed up as moving to this address and then used exisiting Xfinity account to sign up. You get to keep your gold, platinum, diamond status etc. Just once you sign up on your existing account you have to cancel your old account number.

When i called the rep was so surprised that I knew this backdoor trick on how to get promo lol.
I tried to do this today but got this errorr: Looks like your move requires a bit of extra attention
But we can still help. Call us at 1-888-966-7682.

I'm not sure why you got downvoted for this post. I did this same "trick" 1 year ago to get my current $45/mo plan with 600Mbps/150Mbps down/up speeds. I got to keep my diamond status as well when I did it. However, my plan is going to increase to $75 for me next month since it's been a year already. So I just did the "trick" again and ordered the 500Mbps/500Mbps for $45/mo, and this time the price should be good for 5 years. The order went through without issue. I'll report back if any complications come up, but I expect it to be as seamless as it was a year ago. It might even be easier this time around since I already have an Xfinity modem, whereas a year ago, I had to swap my owned modem with an Xfinity one.

Well whoever downvoted this can downvote all they want, but it's not going to change the fact that it worked just fine. After ordering and checking out with the new plan, it was added to my Xfinity login immediately. At this point, I had two accounts associated with my login: One was the current 600/150 account and the other was the new 500/500 account, but the new 500/500 account was not activated yet. I then used the Xfinity App to activate the new account by entering the WAN MAC address of my cable modem/gateway (I have an Xfinity XB8). My cable modem rebooted and the app stated my new account was now activated. My old account was even automatically removed from my Xfinity login at this point. There was a period of a few minutes where I lost internet access while my modem was rebooting, but other than that, it was seamless. And like I said, I still kept my Diamond status.
The only issue I have is that when the modem/gateway rebooted, it must have restored some factory settings because its wifi radio is enabled again (I had it disabled before). However, to change any modem/gateway settings, I now need to use the Xfinity app (the local webpage 10.0.0.1 was also disabled). Unfortunately, my modem/gateway doesn't show up in my list of devices in the app, so I can't change any settings on it right now. I hope to get this resolved soon with a call to customer service so I can disable the wifi radio on the modem/gateway again.

This deal works for existing customers too but you have to call in. I've been with Xfinity for 20 years and located in the bay area with 300mbps for $40/mo price good for one year. I checked the app, it shows the deal when not logged in but when I'm logged in, it wont show so I called and told the robot disconnect and it transfer me to retention dept. I said I found your deal on slickdeal $45 for 500mbps price good for 5 years and the lady signed me up right away and sent me a link to approve and I rebooted modem and confirmed new speed. For folks that can't get this deal as existing customer, possible reason:

1) deal not available in your area, if deal is available then it's probably because of #2

2) your current promote is higher speed and/or higher price than this deal, because I came from 300mbps for $40 so the price and speed are both less than this deal so they gave me zero issue and signed me up right away as existing customer cuz I'm giving them more money but if you are currently paying them more money for your Internet, they are less likely to give you the deal because its less money for them, thats why I didn't sign up for $50/mo for 1gb so I can keep price and speed low for future deals that are more slick say $50/mo for 5g?

I'm an existing customer(also in the bay area) and did all this online. All I had to do was open a browser while signed out of Xfinity (or use a private session). Then go through the process of adding your package and the checkout process. Toward the end, it will ask you to enter you info to create an Xfinity login, but toward the bottom of the screen, there is an option to use your existing Xfinity login, choose that instead. After that, you can finish the checkout using your existing Xfinity login.

Very nice, I thought about doing that but I didn't want to risk creating a new service under the same account and get multiple bills because it's possible to have multiple services under the same address where roommates don't want to share but since you've done this already, I'm assuming this does not create a new service with a new bill, it just override your existing service, thanks for the assurance, I'll give that a try in the future.

I forgot to ask, with your method, does it allow me to choose keep my existing modem and router and not receive comcast equipment in the mail? Because I don't want to host Xfinity hotspot so I'm using my own modem and router and I don't want to deal with receive equipment in the mail and having to send it back, when I spoke to the lady on the phone, she confirmed that I won't receive any equipment from xfinity

Yes, you need to use their modem because unless you have one of the specific self-owned modems, you will not get the speeds they advertise. However you can probably swap it out for your own modem afterwards, but don't quote me on that.

But even if you use their gateway, you can disable the WiFi and the routing (bridge mode) so it effectively becomes a "dumb" cable modem. I did this with the XB8 gateway they gave me and use my own router.

Then me calling in is better for my situation because the agent said they won't send me any equipment since I'm using my own modem and router and my modem is docsis 3.1 so I'm getting the advertised speed. The whole process took only a few mins on the phone.

It actually did create a second account under my Xfinity login. But once I activated the new account, the old one disappeared from my login. Bottom line, you do get a new account number and probably will have a "final bill" on your old account number, but if you don't look closely, you might not even notice.

DOCSIS 3.1 will pretty much guarantee the download speeds, but unless things have changed in the past few months, you still need a specific modem (or the Xfinity provided modem) to get the advertised upload speeds.

In that case, you may want to update your original reply to me to clarify this. When I call in, it's not a new account, it's the same account number with next month being $47 ($45/mo + prorate for the current month's $40 upgraded speed) so I keep the same account, the same diamond member and same free peacock premium for life for the deal and the whole process took less than 10mins
