This bundle is a strong foundation for a gaming PC, especially when paired with a newer GPU. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D is framed as a long-lasting chip, with expectations of around five to six years of useful life, and the included RAM alone is viewed as carrying a large share of the value. The deal also stands out because DDR5 prices have been unusually high lately. The main caveat is that performance depends heavily on the graphics card and resolution, and the RAM may run at 5600 on this board despite the 6000 rating.

Currently have a 5800x3D, 32 GB DDR4 RAM and a 4090. Might be switching to linux from windows. Any point in replacing with this deal or just keep what I have?

Depends on what you use your PC for Smilie (can you give us more info? Gaming? Graphic design? Office work like say Microsoft Word/Excel/Powerpoint et cetera? Just standard use the internet type stuff?) ... sadly with DDR/ram prices being ridiculously high deals like these are probably the best you're going to get compared to the pre-AI "I will gobble up all memory in sight increasing the prices for ram/hard drives" era we were enjoying previously Frown ...
Honestly I would like the ability to game on it. I built my current PC during COVID and it's lasted me this long but I can't really play any games on high settings anymore so I stick with AARPG's like Diablo 4. Mainly I want to future proof it.

Also I'm aware MU and stocks related are hitting new all time highs everyday didn't realize there was this much of a memory crunch for the consumer PC. I suppose it makes complete sense even though RAM is different for these AI mainframe computers, they are allocating their materials for other RAM.

The 5800X3D punches WAY above its class for being an AM4 chip. If you don't encounter bottle necks while playing, keep the 5800X3D imo. Your CPU is highly sought after in this market economy for the performance vs. price, especially when it comes to RAM. Replacing it would have been ideal a couple months ago before the astronomical DDR5 ram price increase but now, not so much.

What resolution you play at is big factor for CPU upgrades. Also, games.

There are a bunch of good benchmarks on YouTube to compare.

In short, one or two generation CPU upgrades do not double or triple frame rates like GPU upgrades. in some cases it won't improve at all because your GPU is doing most the work.

If you are using 1080p, then this new CPU would be a bigger bump maybe 10% to 20% min/avg.
If you using 4k (or plan to) then THERE MAY ONLY BE SINGLE DIGIT FPS IMPROVEMENTS.
1440P is somewhere in middle.

Got it.. okay here's my two cents Smilie but to be honest there are people who know more than me.. I've found the people on the tom's hardware community forums to be very helpful and also the people at hardware canuck's community forums (in the case of hardware canucks you would have to specify you're living in the USA or else the helpful folks there will give you links to Canadian websites to shop at Smilie but they really are kind and friendly, they absolutely live up to the "all Canadians are nice" stereotype Smilie ) ... so I'd also recommend posting the same question there and linking this slickdeals thing too (being honest I'm not sure if either one's website will block it out on a bot's assumption that it's someone trying to hijack their forum to promote their own sales so maybe copy and paste the "includes" part above in your post so they know the specs of the hardware included in the deal)

To me personally though this slickdeals deal seems like a great start towards being able to play modern day games on high settings (I strongly doubt you'll need more than 32 GB of ram unless you're say some youtuber livestreaming the game as you play to your audience Stick Out Tongue ) ... if you google search a particular game and "PC requirements" it usually turns up a steam store listing... don't worry about it being a steam store listing though, it's a good "shortcut" to see what kind of CPU, video card/GPU and amount of ram is recommended (there's normally a "miniumum" and "recommended" section in order to play the game) ... so do that for a few of the games you want to play (the games you think would be the most graphically intense/demanding if you can make a good guess at it) ...

The GPU/video card you buy will make a huge difference .. tom's hardwaer also publishes articles that are helpful (I find them helpful anyways) on PC hardware stuff like this one

https://www.tomshardware.com/revi...,4380.html

Back in the year 2018 I was lucky to snag a asus geforce 1060 6GB video card for $300 that still works great for my 1080 games but then again I have a backlist of games that were made year 2015 or so that aren't nearly as demanding as the PC games out today ... even back then I noticed you'd have to pay double that to future-proof your PC for games that would come out in the future based on my research back then.. so when I look at the tom's hardware recommendations and say " Ouch, my wallet, $600, $700, $800 for a video card" I try to remember a lot of people out there aren't as cheap as I am Stick Out Tongue

In theory you could grab a $300 or $400 video card/GPU instead but from what I've been hearing (remember that I bought my GPU in 2018 so I've been doing a lot of research in case my card dies, hopefully not!) the problem is that bottlenecks you at 8 GB of VRAM on the card which is a problem far as futureproofing for games that will demand more .. from what I've been hearing online 16 GB video cards are the way to go even with the higher price.

From what I understand given some GPU's are heavy a riser device (basically just a "strut" to hold up the GPU card to prevent it's weight sagging down and destroying the socket it's implanted into on the motherboard) is a good plan too , PC cases often have an option GPU strut add-on you can buy.

Two other important things.. try to get a bigger PC case and a decent cpu cooler (not sure if you're going to go with air cooling or liquid/radiator cooling?)... overheating is one of the two bigger threats to a PC from what I understand so a bigger case that will give you good airflow is a big help.

https://www.tomshardware.com/revi...,4183.html

If you don't mind the lack of RGB with the included fans the Lian Li Cool 2017 comes with a lot of preinstalled fans.. apparently the fans mounted close to the GPU help far as keeping the GPU from overheating ... do you have 3.5 or 2.5 sized drives you'll be carrying over from the previous PC? This might complicate things a bit far as the Lian Li 217 in terms of putting them into the included hard drive caddies and mounting your power supply (depends on how many hard drives if any you are carrying over)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDzO5g_jzGo

I've enjoyed Christopher Flannigan youtube tutorials not only because I get a kick out of the Irish accent but also because I find his videos to be helpful and informative far as PC cases I've been considering..
One other piece of advice I've seen pop up time and time again online.. don't cheap out on the power supply.. apparently a lot of people do this and pay the price when it wrecks their expensive PC components.. "B" tier minimum , preferably A tier, worth the price

https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/

https://www.pcgamer.com/best-powe...su-for-pc/

but sign up for alerts for the power supplies for PC's that go on sale too from slickdeals I've been seeing a lot of power supplies that fall into the A tier category on sale (I'd tell you what they are but I can't remember right now Stick Out Tongue ) ... far as futureproofing maybe grab a 1000 watt power supply.. definitely check the recommended power supply requirements for whatever GPU card you get .. use something like this too to make sure you get a power supply that can handle all your stuff

as if my previous wall of text wasn't long enough Stick Out Tongue one other thing... arctic thermal paste is pretty cheap per tube but is worth the investment from what I understand - a lot of people online say to use that instead of any standard thermal paste that might come with a CPU (I think with the CPU in this deal though it doesn't come with preapplied thermal paste anyways and you have to buy your own cpu cooler) ... basically says the online advice, if there's thermal paste that comes preapplied to the CPU remove that stuff with say a paper coffee filter and isopropyl alcohol (I get by with the cheaper 70 percent version sold at say Walmart) and use something like arctic instead.. a good thermal paste helps a lot far as directing heat away from the CPU and makes it easier to remove the CPU cooler in case you want to upgrade it in the future, CPU cooler develops problems and needs to be replaced and so forth.

I haven't done a lot of research into liquid/air cooling but if you want to go the CPU air cooler route

I'd pay the extra $15 and go woth the royal pretor but check (measure) the space inside your PC case to make sure it will fit (sorry I should have asked if you are re-using an older PC case, I just assumed you'd be buying a new PC case to go with this other stuff)

I am in for this... I am looking to upgrade and I don't see prices coming down soon.

I'll just have my brother pick it up and get it when I visit on the 4th of July.
