Our behavior is often dictated by the same set of basic principles. Cost versus benefit, we extrapolate data for risk management. I think an important question to ask here is if the incentives are strong enough for this company to keep investing resources to protect their brand and customers.
This applies to our own decision processes too. Is the initial cost savings worth this risk? I think the next step up right now is a Fitbit, a much more reputable and established company in the industry, has a watch available for $69. A fair question to ask yourself here is are you willing to risk exposing your data for a cost savings of two pizzas.
Of course every use case/needs are different. You can somewhat eliminate the risk by keeping the watch as a disconnected, standalone step counter. If this is the case, keep in mind the price you pay is for a step counter and not a smartwatch.
