A friend of mine has an Ooni and he fixed us several mini pizzas that were absolutely delicious. He uses a separate smooth pizza peel with parchment paper that helps launch the pizza. A separate peel with a longer handle and smallish round head is used to turn the pizza before it is retrieved using the launch peel. His method worked pretty well and not a single pizza was stuck, distored or burned. I have not used a pizza peel like this and am curious why the slots are there. $18 seems reasonable but wonder why it is on clearance? General peel that doesn't excel in any particular area?

I have this and it's great once you get the hang of it. Use semolina flour and don't overload the pizza with toppings, watch some videos on how to get the pizza on the peel and launch it. I also have a solid wood one but I never use it.

This isn't for launching. You want a peel with holes for retrieving so that the flour that was used for launching stays behind. Otherwise too much of it comes with the pizza, and it changes the taste of the pizza.

I used this and wasn't that impressed. Even with semolina flour, the moisture caused massive sticking issues.

I decided to try the wood peel from hobby lobby. Best change ever. I still use semolina flour, but night and day for prep and launch- and they are reasonably cheap.

This is the old model, Ooni sells a different one now. perforations are angular and the handle appears to be wooden.

Metal sucks for launching. Dough is much more likely to stick. Use wood (or bamboo) for this task, as the material will absorb some of the moisture from the high hydration dough.
Metal excels at moving pizzas once the bottom cooks a bit. It's thin, so it is easier to get under the crust.

Make better dough. Metal perforated is best so it can remove excess flour with a quick shake. Sticking to the peel is a separate issue, not a tool issue
