Yet, none of those come close to $10 in value. Are they shacking up with Shake... I mean Shake Shacking it?
Huh? It's a free item when you purchase $10 worth of other items. Why would the free item have to be a $10 value?

Quote from Isitbudgetfriendly :
Because you have to go out of your way to spend the $10 first on items that are at regular price (way above their actual market price) or else you are not getting the free item.

Or another way to think of it. If you spend $10 worth, you are discounted on the items you bought including the free item. If you bought an item for $7.50 and another for $2.50 and the free item usually sells for $5; you are getting all items each for $3.33.

Now an actual good deal:

Ex. Suppose Sonic sells a burger for $5.69 and they offer it free, BUT you need to satisfy a minimum $5 price threshold. The free item in this case has more value than the $5 min. You can choose to buy items up to or at $5.69. Basically, it gives you the item for free or at least BOGO or better. If I chose to spend $5. I get the free item ($5.69 in value) and I get two items for $3.50 and $1.50. In this case, I get all items for $5/3 = $1.66

In this case, if you spend $10 and the free item is like $5 in value, you basically spent $10 on overpriced items (none of the items are worth totaling that $10 price tag) and you are getting a free item, where basically the restaurant made its money back.

Get it?

These restaurants KNOW that you want the free item (that is the bait). If they get you to spend more just to get it, they have reeled you in.

FYI: This $6 deal is better than a free item with $10 purchase just because of the discount on each item.
For fast food places, the actual food they serve to you (plus consumables) is 25-35% of the cost. The rest is rent, wages, taxes and license, franchise fees, capital improvements, etc. They can have steep discounts and still be making money on each customer, because many of their costs are the same every month. You're right about those free items, but all the extra math is unnecessary. Food prices are high and especially fast food where their regular menu prices are exorbitant, and you pretty much have to shop deals/use the app to not be getting ripped off. Especially compared to a proper restaurant or making it yourself.

this would be a good deal if it weren't for the fact that every single popeyes i've been to in a tri-county area always has slow service. it is clear the workers don't get paid enough and it shows.

the fastest i've gotten food was during non peak hours and it still took 15 mins. the slowest was 50 mins and I preordered on the app.....
