Yes, the standard plan is not as good and you lose your credits. If you're a prime member you get 3 free audiobooks to read in 3 months. Not as good as 3 months of premium pus, but free! If you have Amazon Music you also get to borrow an audiobook each month that you don't get to keep, same principal. I do it every month and listen to one book. Thanks for posting.
Agreed, I will never understand the complaints about getting something for FREE. I do not understand the argument that Standard should be included with Prime because then essentially you are keeping the books forever anyways if you are Prime so there would be no real point for Audible tiers. Prime is already a great deal without free audiobooks.

I switched from audible to libby several months ago. They don't have everything, but I have found several of the audiobooks I was interested in. You make have to wait a bit, but it does save you money Smilie
You may have to wait forever. There are always some books that just never get added to the library especially if it is a series. So you may get book 1 of a series and that's all you'll get. It's done that way on purpose.

Free is free so just listen to a few new books and be happy. How often do you relisten to audiobooks anyways?
I just finished relistening to This Inevitable Ruin, relistened to the entire Dresden Files before 12 Months came out, my book club just did HGttG, so relistened to that...

But you go ahead and disagree with every post detailing just how bad this new membership option is, since you know best about how others listen to books.

Though I would suggest laying off the Coronas before posting.

Wait, so you have access to listen to 1 single book per month?!? That's ridiculous.

If you get standard, drop it, and then renew it later, do you get your books back?

Huh? That makes no sense because then essentially you can technically keep the books as long as you are a Prime member. Are you determined to make it impossible for authors to make any money at all? I also don't see how this is "useless." You can listen to 3 brand new audiobooks for absolutely free. Yes you don't keep them but how often do you relisten to your audiobooks?
Not at all, because you've misunderstood my comment. I absolutely believe authors should get paid. My comment have nothing to do with Authors getting paid. It's entirely about Amazon's greed .

My opinion is that "Prime" is so overpriced that Amazon should automatically include Audible Standard, at the very least. Instead, they actually remove features that made Audible appealing in the first place. They do the same thing with their movies. Prime members SHOULD be able to see ALL of the movies on Amazon. Instead, they want extra money for most of the newer movies they have. It's like video games manufacturers purposely removing features or chapters of a game and calling it "Downloaded Content" JUST so they can relieve YOU of more of your money.
My opinion remains that something like a Audible Standard Membership should already be included with every Prime membership, especially for the outrageous price they already get and are probably intending to raise even higher.

No one is forcing you to buy Prime. It's a fair value as long as people are still willing to pay for it. Personally, I find the $139 a year a bargain and would be willing to pay even more. The amount of money I save on gas alone is worth it. I think people forget that before Prime you often had to drive around town shopping for all those little things that now appear on your doorstep in 1 to 2 days. To each their own.

FYI if you have a library card you can check out all the audiobooks you want from your local library using the Libby app.
As long as they have them. And if they don't ask them. Also join the friends of the library to raise funds for your local library if you want of course

Then I suppose you ARE the target customer. Congrats! Hope you feel the same when they double the cost again in a few months because Bezos's newest filler-enhanced bride wants another yacht.

And people are downvoting you for pointing it out! Books are probably $20 on average and I agree with you, i don't listen twice and don't need to keep them. Just listen to 3 books for free and cancel, stop whining!

Prime has actually stayed the same price since 2022 and has only gone up $20 since 2018 so your assertion is rather silly and just not realistic. I actually thought it was $149 but it is actually still $139. Facts are facts. Look it up.
