Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 3 is a compact Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 gaming tablet that stands out for strong performance, a good LCD screen, vapor chamber cooling, and a small form factor that works well for emulation and game streaming. The two USB C ports and gaming profiles make controller setups and fast charging more flexible, and the tablet can be turned into a handheld with accessories like the G9 or Razer Kishi. The main drawbacks are the missing microSD slot, removed headphone jack, and limited Lenovo software update support. It is a solid small tablet if you can live with the storage and software tradeoffs.
The Legion Tab Gen 3 includes gaming performance profiles and a vapor chamber for improved thermal management.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 with 12GB RAM configuration is described as good for current games and apps.
The two USB-C ports can support controller use in portrait or landscape while also enabling fast charging.
The tablet supports PC game streaming using Moonlight and Apollo with an excellent experience reported.
The lack of a microSD card slot limits ROM storage for emulation setups.
Lenovo's Android update and security support is described as limited, and a budget Lenovo tablet reportedly became buggy and laggy after an OS update.
Gamehub setup reportedly takes extra work to get games running on Android.
The Gen 3 design removes the headphone jack and SD card slot, and it is described as the worst I/O generation compared with later models.

1. It has two USB ports. That is important to be able to attach a gaming controller
2. It has gaming performance management features. This allows you to easily choose a performance profile and track temperatures and other performance metrics
3. It has a vapor chamber which improves thermal performance
So,
1. It has two usb ports for convinounce... you don't need any with many gaming controllers and only ONE is used when if you get a hard wired controller.
2. Gaming performance management features... those are big words that mean what? You can download third party apps to track temps and performance metrics if that is your thing... knowing it slows downs what you are doing, IMHO... that is counter productive.
3. Yes it has a vapor chamber... one of the best.
But this is a Snap Dragon 8 Gen 3.. not Gen 4 or Gen 5. And it is still possible to get throttled if your game or application causes too much heat. And the "for galaxy" Snap Dragon 8 Gen 3... this chip is overclocked and will run faster.
It is the "higher performance"... this is not really higher performance... three year old technology. I think we are past half way with security updates and it will end November 30, 2028. I will agree that this Lenovo Tablet may have the highest benchmarks for a SD 8 Gen 3... but the Gen 4 beats it right away and that bump in performance is minimal IMHO.
2. Use google or gemini or chatgpt
3. Use google or gemini or chatgpt but also reddit, youtube video, AND where will you find the games... i like to use irc, but very limited.
It's not as nice as having it built in, but if you're already carrying around a game controller and other attachments, it's not that bad.
I got one a few months ago at $300 after taxes (I had some Lenovo rewards), and at that price I don't think there's a better option for a smaller gaming focused tablet. 2.5x for the Gen 5 is a tough sell. At closer to $400 it's a little less attractive, but still the best option unless you're willing to spend quite a bit more or interested in flashing roms on international versions.
And international versions does not mean much regarding emulation... the CPU is what is the most important since drivers need to be writen for this stuff and they like to use Snap Dragon. The SD 8 Gen 3 has the most stable emulation drivers right now... due to it's age.
And while THIS THREAD is for the Snap Dragon GEN 3 (Jan 2025)... you did mention the 2026 (May) model. You know there are better and cheaper small form factor gaming tablets.
My favorite by far is ZTE RedMagic Gaming Tablet 5 Pro; coming out THIS MONTH and I believe it will be cheaper then Lenovo's Legion and it has a much better screen IMHO with one USB C 3.2 port. And the size of this tablet is 9.06" with 185Hz OLED screen and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. I believe it will sell for around $550 USdollars. And between this deal or spending an extra $175.. no doubt I would spend the extra money for the extra power and the much better screen.

Controllers: Gamesir G8+, Razer Kishi Ultra/V3 Pro, Legion G7 controller, Legion G9 controller (although I am not a fan of this
Android Games: whatever you want to play. It will run pretty much anything
Emulators: if you kean console emulation, look up a Retro Gaming Corps video on emulation. For PC emulation, you can use Gamehub, Game Native or a couple of other apps They are easy to install. These apps will pull down your games from Steam, GoG or Epic. PC emulation is extremely finicky. There are around a 5-10 settings to tweak to get a game to run. You can find the settings on Emuready.
Some of the games that I have run are: Sea of Stars, Shadow of Mordor, Outer Worlds, Alan Wake, Celeste, Hollow Knight, Dead Cells, The Expanse (Telltale), Walking Dead (Telltale), Injustice, Until Then, Vampire Survivors, Megabonk, The Messenger, Slay the Spire, Hades, Divinity Original Sin 2, Dave the Diver, Tomb Raider, Dredge, Tron Identity, In Other Waters, Lana

The tablet has built in profiles for gaming and an app to easily manage them for games.
On performance the S8G3 is obviously slower than Elite processors. However it has better compatibility than the Snapdragon Elite processors. This device will have better performance+compatibility (for gaming) than any other processor. Thats why I didnt say "highest performance".
Your post reads like you have a bit of knowledge about gaming on tablets. However the features that I mentioned about have specific impact on the flexibility and performance of this device. That comes from personal experience with Emulation of PC and console games across multiple Android tablets and devices including this tablet.

You currently have more mature drivers... this is only temporary. But there was a dramatic shift in architecture with the GPU of the SnapDragon 8 Gen 3 and Elite. It has taken a little longer then usual due to the new change in architecture, but once the elite drivers are more mature, the Snapdragon 8 Elite will permanently dethrone the 8 Gen 3. Its Oryon CPU cores and upgraded GPU possess roughly 20% to 30% more raw processing power, allowing it to maintain higher resolutions and easily push through heavy shader compilation stutters. They say this can happen some time this year... it has been over a year since the Elite CPU was released.
OK.. having built in profile for gaming can be considered bloatware and spyware if it tracks you. Having additional background apps running does not make your device faster, actually it makes it slower when you are under load. But it is COOL... but that is it IMHO. By the way I have the same thing on my tablet and I say the same thing about it with my device.
Bottom line, this is one of the BEST small android tablet devices around and the price is not perfect but pretty close. The only other device that offers great value and beats this one on specs is ZTE last gen Android device (SD 8 Elite) or their upcoming (less then 30 days away) tablet that will have a SD 8 Gen 5 CPU. I don't know how much money it will cost but if it sells for $550 or less then I feel this tablet will have much better value then paying $387 for this tablet.
CPU/GPU: SD 8 Gen 5
OLED screen nits: 2000
This tablet screen is 185Hz.
Leaked Price is suppose to be $600 for 12GB 256GB version.
80Watt fast charging. Vs 65Watt charging for Lenovo.
It will have the best cooling system of any tablet to date. Less bloatware and less spyware then Lenovo (but you can disable).
At the same time, you will be hard pressed to get joysticks working with such a large tablet and it will be very heavy playing games for an extended time... that is where the small tablets come in.
If you are not a gamer, I would go with this tablet. OR something cheaper such as....
https://www.lenovo.com/us/vipmemb...zae40
But this is $35 more then it was last week and this is a BIG tablet 12.7"
CPU/GPU: SD 8 Gen 5
OLED screen nits: 2000

Redmagic has one of the worst inventory management of any company out there. They come across as a strictly crowdfunding outlet to me. Unless you preorder their first batch of a product, you're basically SOL. They're so bad that I don't take them seriously as a consumer electronics company. They're almost on the same level as a random AliExpress seller, with the difference being that the AliExpress seller probably has the item in stock instead of being perpetually out of stock like Redmagic.

OK... you can use the usb C in portrait or landscape and have it hard wired. You can also used a bluetooth controller and be able to do both portrait and landscape as well... it does not have to be hard wired, you can buy a bluetooth joystick. Also only one of those ports has fast data transfer speeds, so I would say no to using one of them for a thumbdrive.

As for the ports. Typically you will use this device in landscape orientation. The port on the side (where the controller attaches) is USB 2.x. The bottom port is USB 3.x. I use that one for fast charging. If it only had one port, a bluetooth controller would cover a port in one or the other orientation. I have used a Gamesir G8+ (bluetooth) with this tablet as well. I prefer the Legion G7 controller because it is lighter (but it is made by Gamesir and is s a variant of the G8).
I personally dont attach an SSD/Hub/Card Reader while using a controller, but some people do. The other case where this matters is if you buy a Legion G9 controller, you will need two ports. The G9 fully encases the tablet inside of a controller that feels just like a Legion Go or other handheld. (I am not a bit fan of the G9 though....tried it.) The problem is if you didnt have to ports, you wouldnt be able to charge in both orientations.
The performance profile is controlling the processor. You can choose, economy, balanced, or perforfmance. This is common on Android focused handhelds/tablets and allows you to match your processor/power consumption to your game. It is present on my Legion and Ayaneo devices at least.
