I wouldn't settle for a DRAM-Less QLC drive even in a time like this. The 4TB SN850X is currently at $599. If you can wait, it should go on sale soon on Amazon's Prime Day.
Community Reviews
The WD Blue SN5100 4TB is a low power PCIe Gen 4 NVMe drive that stands out for laptop, handheld, and PS5 storage, with some calling it a strong value for a 4TB name brand drive. The low power draw and heat make it appealing for compact devices, and the capacity is attractive in a market where 4TB SSDs have stayed expensive. The main concern is that it is DRAM less QLC, which raises durability and performance worries compared with TLC drives. Pricing also appears to vary by store, with some locations showing $349.99 and others $399.
Common Questions (5)
It is a strong price relative to current 4TB name-brand SSD pricing, which is often cited around $550-$800, and it is under the $100/TB mark. It is still higher than older pre-shortage prices around $216-$300, so it reads as a good current-market price rather than a historical low.
Yes. It is a DRAMless QLC drive, which can mean lower durability and weaker random-access performance than TLC, especially when data is not cached. It is still described as a strong deal for buyers who need 4TB storage now, but it is not the best choice if endurance is the top priority.
The listing image does not appear to include a heatsink, and a heatsink is often recommended for SSDs in hotter installs. A $10-$20 heatsink can be added separately, and the drive is also described as low-power enough for handhelds and laptops.
Yes. One local Micro Center showed $399 while another still showed $349.99, so the in-store price can differ by location. The listing was also still showing in stock for pickup and delivery for some shoppers even after being marked expired.
Yes. The drive is described as low power and low heat, which makes it a good fit for handhelds and laptops, and one comment specifically says it works well in a Steam Deck with an adapter.

Sometimes the best deal on something is still a bad deal.
Unless a person is sitting with a project on their workbench that's dead in the water and needs to become functional immediately, it's best to wait a while longer.
But seriously, it was the 4tb SN850X and it crapped out on me in 3 years so I'm already not a big fan of WD's nvme
As for SN850X's main competitor, don't get me started on it...

Apart from this, it's an excellent deal.

This timeline hurts my soul... And my wallet.
I feel like together, the computer part hunters of Slickdeals ... we've finally reached the final stage of grief. Acceptance.
I've reached a better stage... not being afraid to pull the trigger without even knowing the time is right. (evidence, see the guy who posted right before me)
It works well on my steam deck (installed w/ an adapter).
$350 is wild, but I guess this is our new normal.
