The WD Blue SN5100 4TB is a low power PCIe Gen 4 NVMe drive that stands out for laptop, handheld, and PS5 storage, with some calling it a strong value for a 4TB name brand drive. The low power draw and heat make it appealing for compact devices, and the capacity is attractive in a market where 4TB SSDs have stayed expensive. The main concern is that it is DRAM less QLC, which raises durability and performance worries compared with TLC drives. Pricing also appears to vary by store, with some locations showing $349.99 and others $399.

1 year ago was before the AI inflation kicked in. For the last 5 months, this is a good price for this.
No it's not

So... three were real issues with the Samsung drives 990 Pro. They had rapid health degradation (SMART values), random system disconnections, and write-speed drops... but it was the rapid health degradation that became the major issue. You see, once your drive degraded, it could never get better. It took time but Samsung finally admitted the issues and came out with new firmware to correct the rapid health degradation BUT if your drive degraded before the firmware update was done... Samsung allowed you to send in your old drive and they gave you a new one... Tens of thousands of people took advantage of this return/swap. And most likely, these were the drives that they sold during that sale. I almost bought one myself but I decided on going for a new SK Hynix P041 instead... and yes, today it is triple the price. Big economic downturn looming... or it may never come. It is funny how yo state this, like it is fact cause it is closer to fantasy. EIther way, AI will not be walking away and don't expect prices to get better for at least 2 years.
As the chip stocks tank 8%. The current prices are not the norm, but enjoy your fantasy of continuing to pay ridiculously inflated prices...it's an odd dream but you do you.

And stop driving to work. I just paid $75 to fill up my SUV where it only cost me $35 a year ago. It's not collusion, and not even greed, it is supply and demand.
Actually, it IS price fixing. A lawyer contacted me about a class action lawsuit. They have proof that the manufacturers have been working together...just like every time before.

As I thought. You can't show a better price for anyone that wants one NOW. You can just reminisce about how prices used to be. That's useless for anyone that has a current need for storage.

Tank 8%???

AMD went from 420 to 560 in three weeks... now it is 466 and you call that tanking? Basically the stock has made ten percent in three weeks and you call that tanking?

Most places are saying the memory crisis will continue through 2028 - this unfortunately seems like a pretty darn good deal if you need new memory in the next 2 or more years.
Well, under this administration, unfortunately dot.com won't allow these data centers to bubble bust; it's now backed by workers' 401(K) plans. The USA recession is now dictated by oligarchs' definition, even thou were in a deep recession, and one week is left before being tapped out of reserve gas.

Actually it does have to do with supply and demand. Trumps war closed the straight that a lot of oil tankers used. That restricted the supply that can get to where it's supposed to be going, so prices increased due to normal demand being much higher than the restricted supply the war caused.
Man, it's worser than that. What are we planning to do when the reserves run out next week - what ends up paying $10 per a gallon for Russian gas?

I bought a nvme that's a little better than this for $275 a little more than 3 years ago. This is outrageous!

But seriously, it was the 4tb SN850X and it crapped out on me in 3 years so I'm already not a big fan of WD's nvme
Sorry to hear your 850X didn't last very long. My 4TB 850X from Dec 2023 still works perfectly and I thought it was expensive back then at $230. Still picking my jaw off the floor at today's $600 price! Ridiculous.

price is not coming down on ssds for 2 more years, more manufacturing capacity has to open up and data center needs has not slowed down it seem. the ssd makers want to take your money, so they are working hard on that to bring price down I'm sure. vote with your wallet, don't buy until you need it.
