Apple inbuilt satellite and T-Mobile free 911 satellite services reduces the need for these type of devices. Unless you are regularly in the deep back country, lower cost options available

It also depends on where you are adventuring. For example, right now my Pixel can't do emergency satellite services in Mexico or nearly anywhere in South America.
