This Midea 50 pint smart dehumidifier is best known for strong moisture removal and long-running basement or bathroom use, with the built in pump making drainage easier than manual dumping. Several long term reports describe two years or more of steady operation, and the phone app is genuinely useful for monitoring humidity. The main drawbacks are noise, noticeable room heat, and a humidity sensor that can run below the setpoint or short cycle. Pump failures and occasional odor or fan issues also appear, so it suits spaces where performance matters more than quiet.

You can't reduce the heat. It's part of the physics of pulling the moisture out of the air and dumping the dry air back in the same space. A dehumidifier is essentially an air conditioner with the hot side still inside the room. You can try running it during cooler parts of a day or ducting the heat elsewhere. If you need things both drier and cooler, an air conditioner is the way to go.
Thank you for the advice. Since we have central air conditioning, we don't need an additional air conditioner. I agree with the number of people who mentioned other than noise and inaccurate sensor, but it does a good job of pulling moisture out of the air. Perhaps I should move it to somewhere else other than the living room. Thanks

A lot of one star reviews. Anyone have or had this?
I've been running it 24/7 gor two years. I have it set to stop at 45% and it works as expected. I have it pump the condensation into a laundry room sink. I end up needing to dust off the filter cover once a week, but that only takes 30 seconds. I'd buy it again if I needed another.

I have owned this one for about a year now and it works with no issues. I do not use the pump, I just have it gravity drain to my sump pump and I have it on 24/7/365 and set to auto 50% humidity in my basement. It runs a lot in the summer and not so much in the winter. I was skeptical about another "smart" device in my home but this one is actually useful, being able to monitor the humidity levels in my basement from my phone is nice, in addition to being able to control it from the app as well.
Side note- I always buy my dehumidifiers from costco due to their excellent return policy. Consumer grade dehumidifiers only seem to last 3-5 years with moderate to heavy usage. My last one (of a different brand, Midea) only lasted one year, replaced under manufacturer warranty, then that one broke two years later. I returned that to costco, they looked up the receipt, and gave me costco cash, which I purchased this model with. If and when this one dies I'll do the same thing again.

Was satisfied when I had it, but it lasted one season only. Took it back for a refund.

Have the Hisense now which is more powerful but noticed the pump isn't designed to keep up if it runs non stop so will switch to gravity drain.

we've had much better luck with Frigidaire or Friedrich dehumidifiers than the Midea junk

I have 3 of these running 24/7 in sheds in the humid south. I set them to nonstop mode and plumb a 3/4-inch PVC drain with a trap going outside. The back of the unit has a 3/4-inch male garden hose connection, so it just needs an adapter that goes from 3/4-inch female GHT to 3/4 PVC. I put a 3/4 Fernco rubber coupler on there just in case I ever need to remove the units.

My 3 units have been running on max 24/7 for several years without any issues.

They require cleaning the filters every few months and cleaning the p-trap on the drains about once a year.

They do very well at pulling water out of the air, but be aware they produce heat as a byproduct and will heat the room they are in over time.

I got a refurb from Walmart for $109. I'm pretty happy with its performance pulling moisture out of the air. It definitely makes a noticeable difference in my garage. It is louder than my crawlspace dehumidifier, especially when the pump is running. Also, the unit doesn't always turn on or off as quickly as expected given the set parameters. My biggest dislike is that the pump doesn't kick on until the reservoir is full. I'd prefer the water getting pumped out right away rather than sitting in the unit for a few days. Overall, though, I'm satisfied with the unit so far.
