Why is this considered a good deal? Seems like a generic AC.

Might want to pay attention to the details and not knee jerk it. This is a 12k BTU unit. The smart GE 8k I bought last year is still $299. The 12k BTU inverter Midea I just bought is $509. So ya, 12K for $300 is a good deal...if it was valid.

Walmart has Midea U shape AC for 299. I have it and love it. It is 12 K BTU and Inverter also.
