just keep in mind, these things tout themselves as "oilless design" like it is a positive feature. when in reality it means you have to manually oil the chain regularly to keep it from wearing out the chain and bar very quickly.

Depending on the diameter of the wood you are cutting, it can take a long time and a lot of battery with a recip saw. This would go through much quicker.

Good price. All my local stores were out of it, closest was 45 min away so they took $50 off the tool only and I got it for $100. Still a good price and not worth 45 minutes of driving to get a small battery for $10 more in savings.

Echoing others comments regarding inaccurate stock levels - the HD app indicated the Suwanee, GA location had just one in stock but there were at least three that I saw when I purchased one yesterday - they were in the lawn tools section on a high shelf.

Quote from BogusLawyer :
That is incorrect. It depends on the tool, but there are 'HP' connections on larger capacity batteries that allow the tool to pull more current.
No, that person is entirely correct. The "2 amp hour" is posting the capacity of the battery, not the "strength" of the output (which in this case is 18v and whatever amperage draw from the tool itself). You will see zero difference in performance using a 2ah vs 4ah vs 6ah (assuming the same battery line). What you WILL see is that you get significantly longer runtime with the bigger capacity ones. The numbers are saying that a 2ah battery can deliver 1 amp at 18v for 2 hours. A 4ah battery can deliver 1am at 18v for 4 hours, etc... (note that the 18v part is set by Ryobi because this is an 18v ecosystem).

The thing is that you are ALSO correct (well excluding saying that first guy was incorrect). The HP was their top-tier line of tools/batteries (now it is functionally their mid-tier since they released their "Edge" line). If you are using an HP tool then you will see a difference in performance between a base 2ah battery vs an HP 2ah battery. But compare a 2ah HP and a 4ah HP and they will perform the same. The difference in performance comes from the HP (or Edge) aspect, not the 2/4/6/8ah capacity part.

All that being said: I have a good mix of base and HP tools and batteries (no Edge) and I can never really tell much of a difference between either of them unless I am really pushing one of the HP tools, then it is pretty obvious the difference in performance.

Take care

I used a recip saw for a while, but just got this a few weeks ago -- the pruning saw is far better, and this is a great deal. I spent $80 tool only on ebay. The reciprocating saw vibrates everything so much and is tough to work with one-handed. Because this pruning saw is one handed and doesn't vibrate, I can rip through branches, even big ones, quite quickly while controlling how the branch falls. It immediately became the saw I use the most because I do a lot of cutting branches < 8 ft off the ground or cutting slash down or small trees.

I was using a Kobalt 12" saw for all purposes, but I decided to switch from Kobalt to Ego (use string trimmer primarily) so I'm going to give it away and got an Ego 16" for larger tree-removal jobs.

One left in stock in victor NY. Had to search for nearly a half hour there were 2 in a brown cardboard box locked up above the normal stock of rybobi garden saws; I bought one. Great deal as I wanted an extra battery and feel this tool will come in more handy then the ryobi ratchet deal I was about to buy just to snag an extra battery
