Not sure if these are worth the risk unless you buy the 1 or 2 year warranty with it.

I'd ask them if they have an xbox in store that you could test it on, or at minimum if you could return if it has stick drift.

GameStop refurbished in my experience is trade ins thrown in a box and shipped to you. They didn't even clean any part of it. One time it looked like someone puked in what I got. Like, why would you accept that as a trade in to begin with?

Good idea.
They HAVE to have a test system because it's required when they take in controllers for trade-in. They have an app or program that tests the buttons if they all work properly and even stick drift. Gamestop will ding your trade-in value with a "refurb fee" or just plain outright reject the trade-in. (I previously traded in a console and have seen them do this -- if they don't accept the controller, they will suggest you buy one of their own pre-owned controllers from their very store before they can accept the entire console trade-in).

Gamestop has double standards -- very high standards for themselves when accepting trades, but when it comes to selling to customers, they will sell you a Protection Plan instead and the risk is on you. Gamestop can open a game and sell it to you as NEW, but if you open a game, suddenly it's USED.
Also, people thinking that buying their warranty is gonna save them is comedy. These old controllers are a gamble, especially the Series 1 at this point. Their Protection Plan is gonna supply you with another controller that is highly likely going to drift as well (if they even have them in stock). Then the Plan will expire and you get left holding the bag.

If you do buy a pre-owned controller from them and they don't allow you to test it, then go home and plug it into a PC and go to the website HardwareTester, and click on the Gamepad section. You can check if all buttons work and even if it has stick drift. If it's no good, return it right away. But again, prepare for headaches. Worse case scenario you can trade the Series V2 back to Gamestop (for $30 currently; Series V1 has no listing so they probably don't even accept it, which is a huge red flag).

I would not buy one of these used. Mine all got sticky plastic and the molding starts coming apart. Microsoft gotta do a lot better for what they charge for these.

I just bought two in the Los Angeles area. Both were in excellent/like new condition. At this price I can't complain and would say it is worth a shot!!

Super do not buy these. They might be one of the best controllers brand new, but they just don't last. I can't wait for a TMR version.

I literally bought a brand new one and it has steak drift after like four weeks of normal use. Luckily I was able to get my money back ended up with the razer Wolverine V3.
