This went on sale for half this price quite a bit a decade ago but kind of fell into obscurity. I guess it got a little resurgence with the remake coming out.

Yup, lots of videos on youtube about it. It got pushed back til next February, assuming they are avoiding the dreaded GTA6 launch.

Not trying to be pedantic but it's a reboot, not a remake.

Fable Anniversary is a remaster of Fable: The Lost Chapters with upgraded HD visuals, improved lighting, and special effects, originally built for Xbox 360 and later enhanced through backward compatibility on newer Xbox systems.

On Xbox Series X, it can be upscaled to 4K HDR, which makes the game look noticeably cleaner and sharper than the original release.

Never played Fable, might jump in now - it's included w Game Pass BTW.

Fair distinction.

Like CTRL-ALT-DEALS said, this is a remaster of Fable: The Lost Chapters (TLC). The Lost Chapters was a release of Fable that had some additional content, most notably a few quest lines that take place after the original story. I played the original Fable on XBOX, then TLC on PC, then Fable II, Fable III, and Fable Anniversary on XBOX.

In addition to remastering visuals, Fable Anniversary also allowed you to choose between the classic Fable I/TLC control scheme and an alternative control scheme that I believe was introduced in Fable II. In I/TLC, there were a lot of magic powers you could acquire and use, so there was a need to be able to flip through "pages" of them mapped to your controller's face buttons. II and III simplified the magic system quite a bit, so there was less need to cycle through "pages" of spells.
For those new to the Fable franchise, these are action/exploration RPGs with a heavy emphasis on morality (a lot of quests have 2 ways to resolve them - a good way and an evil way) and British humor. They allow you to specialize in melee, ranged, or magic combat (but you can also evenly use all three). The stories in each game are mostly self-contained but with a consistent world and some references to one another. Fable 2 takes place 500 years after Fable 1, which a noticeable change from more medieval themes, settings, and weapons to more colonial/industrial ones. Fable 3 takes place 50 years after Fable 2.
I believe Fable 3 was released on PC but has been delisted from most storefronts. Sadly Fable 2 (my favorite in the series) never had a PC release. There's a fair bit of content to enjoy in Anniversary for this $12 price, though I'm not sure if I can personally justify buying it yet again.

It's a remake of a reboot of the original remaster that was a rebuttal of the restoration.

IMO pretty much nothing is a true "remake" unless it is a shot for shot, scene for scene reproduction. Reboot is a fairly new term to suggest somewhere in between the lack of (strict) adherence to the original source and completely reinventing the wheel. Most projects fall somewhere in the middle. This term (in my opinion) was born from the modern reddit mindset to nitpick every single detail of a rEmAkE, forcing new verbiage to be used so the more pedantic audience members have less for their knees to jerk about. Good forbid someone 'remake' an old cartoon but change the hair color of side character. Now it is a "reboot"...so slightly less people complain Wink

Don't even get me started how every reboot / remake must be 'exactly the same' yet still fresh and new, otherwise it somehow will upset half of reddit. Any fresh and new will of course upset the other half.

/pedantic rant

I remember the original vision for the game, when it was a living game that every thing you did had a consequence. Even an animal you killed would influence the game later on. It had weather and day/night, incredibly ambitious and none of it came to fruition. No game today can amount to what Peter Molyneux had in mind for this game lol. It's what sold me on the original xbox but yeah, it turned out like any other game.
