Where would this conjecture come from? Cotton works in drier environments from 40⁰-75⁰F.

Everything has an application. If you want something hugging in an arid environment this is fine. In humid environments, mesh polyester, and other blends do wick away sweat but I personally prefer loose fitting high % poly to allow my skin to breath better. Sticky clothing is a pet peeve of mine unfortunately.
