When these apps ask you to tip for takeout, all it is is businesses wanting to socially subsidize more of their employees' wages in a way that redirects their employees' frustrations from themselves to customers, instead of paying a livable wage themselves.

Sales taxes are set by the state/county/municipality you live in, you like having roads, schools, water and sewer lines or is that a scam?
Delivery costs money and time, do you provide that for free? If people charge for that service it is scam to you? If your offering free delivery I have a list of things for you to go get for me and everyone I know.
Tips are to help ensure drivers make enough to offer their services. If they do not get tips that justify the work and time invested they will work elsewhere, services like Doordash will fold and then there will be no delivery at any price.
Can't believe all the people against tips for delivery services. You all have obviously never done that work and have no idea how difficult it is to deal with entitled & ungrateful folks. Go pick it up or stay home and cook for yourselves.
Among other gigs I have Doordashed in the past. I thought it would be cool to use the money for extra fun things. On average in my area you can run 2 delivery's in one hour, driving your own car. It is often hard driving in heavy city traffic and it is easy to use a gallon of gas per hour. Folks probably need to net $15-25 per hour after gas and vehicle wear just for it to begin to make any sense. That means each delivery has to be about $10-15 to the driver minimum just to make it work at a baseline level. Unfortunately I discovered it was just not worth it, even for side money. Some others can't quit the gig and need that money for real bills. Be kind to them.
