There is no deal here. It's this price everywhere, clearly a manufacturer-advertised retail discount. This turntable replaces the PS-LX310BT which, until a year ago was normally priced at $248 and frequently on sale for $198 or less.

Yeah, yeah, inflation, sanctions, tariffs, oil crisis etc., but there is no reason for this to have a $400 MSRP. This is an obvious price gouging. Sony with their marketing reach will obviously sell a sh!t-ton of these, but you don't need to pay a premium for an unexceptional mass-market consumer product. This is not why we are here on Slickdeals.

And you will have owned nothing and never had a pleasure of handling a tangible media. You will not have nothing to leave to your children or grandchildren which may still have value.

Doesn't bluetooth encoding completely negate the point of vinyl?

If you buy a solid starter turntable, let's say for $330, and build an "average" record collection (about 195 LPs at current market prices), your total investment comes out to roughly $7,587.
Now, let's put that into perspective.
If you took that exact same $7,587 and spent it on a TIDAL Individual subscription ($10.99/month), do you know how long it would last you?
šŸ’„ 57.5 YEARS. šŸ’„

Vinyl is pretty cool it's just so overly complicated. The work you hato put in to rip it to a computer is also difficult. CDs are so much easier even with the less dynamic range

And how long does it last you if Tidal goes out of business in three years? Who will you be leaving your Tidal subscription to in your will?

So you never used it then?

I have the PS-LX310BT and it is not trash, or wont be with another purchase. You will need to spend another $30-60 to get a better stylus or else most records will sound like someone running their fingers down a chalkboard. Once you swap that out it is a decent piece of equipment that will do what anyone looking to only spend a little bit on a turntable would want it to do.

So they can list 99.9% of the records they don't want Facebook Marketplace for like $100 OBO just so someone can come take it away.

This is not a good turntable. There are much better options at this price point.

I know i'll get a lecture on this, but doesn't using bluetooth for playing back vinyl defeat ONE of the reasons to get into vinyl? I mean I have an old analog pre-amp set up on my turntable, and its convinced me its got a richer, natural sound, than if i route the same turntable and speakers through my digital amp.
I mean, sure, its likely just the natural differences in the amps creating an effect that I have associated with it because everyone has told me to look for it, and that is what it is.....but......there IS a distinct difference in how the sound is "made" between the two setups......right?

What's the point in taking the warm analogue sound that attracts people to vinyl and digitizing it to a bluetooth signal. Might as well be playing music on spotify

Your kids are gonna be thrilled when they find out dear old dad left them a Ford Pinto of a music collection.
Something that felt substantial when you bought it, but now just sits there taking up space, requiring maintenance, and gets offloaded in bulk for whatever some random guy offers so they can finally park in the garage. "May still have value" is doing Olympic-level gymnastics.
The tangible ritual is fine if that's your thing. It's still just an expensive hobby. Most people who want the vinyl experience buy the handful of records they actually care about and stream the rest. They don't turn it into a $7k storage unit and call it legacy planning.
The math was never complicated. You just didn't like the conclusion.

The "what if Tidal dies in three years" argument misses the point.
The original math was about listening to music, not building a collection. Those are two different hobbies. If you enjoy collecting physical records, that's fine. Just don't pretend it's the financially smarter way to actually listen to music. It isn't.
