These phones were released in 2022. Software support (bug fixes, etc) ends in 2027. I would rather pay a little more for a phone with at least 2 more years of product life.

I use this phone and really like it but I paid $70 with trade in of an old decrepit iPhone direct from Google when it came out years ago. I wouldn't pay this much now that it's almost end of life, probably better to get a tracfone at that point.

The real value in this phone is the ease of bootloader unlockability and custom rom support - moving to graphene os or stable systems like lineage os etc. Of course not for everyone but great value for those interested

I would avoid. These had a pretty bad battery issue that Google offered $100 refunds to every customer for, to cover replacement cost or $150 credit towards purchase of new phone. They also capped the charging speed over firmware update so it performs worse than it did at launch. Not sure if these were replaced or not.

Great compact phone that I still use on my free Freeup line. Grabbed mine years ago for $99.00 during a Walmart BF deal.

No, they did not offer it to every customer, only to customers with affected devices. Not all Google Pixel 6a devices were affected.

Yes. This is a bad idea unless you're planning on loading an alternative firmware on it (e.g., Lineage OS or Graphene OS).

I recently replaced my Pixel 6 (going EOL later this year) with a refurb Pixel 8a (EOL in May 2031).

And it wasn't that much more:

$220

With a EOL a bit less than 5 years from now, I'm in good shape for a LONG time, as far as cell phones go.

Mine was "not affected", my wife's was. Mine showed more signs of the defect than my wife's. Their method of identification is either bogus or borked.

I have a 6a from 2023 that worked good until yesterday. Browsers crash, cant type anywhere or bring-up dial pad. I did a bunch of resets including factory and it made it less crazy but still no keypads, vertical swipes, browser commands. I was wondering about buying the 6a on Woot but not sure the battery thing is fixed. Sucks having a phone in the car and wondering if its going to cause a fire. The 60fps 4k was pretty nice and thats hard to find on new phones under $200
