Lenovo's ThinkPad P16 Gen 3 is a mobile workstation built for heavy creator and engineering work, with a 24GB RTX PRO 5000, 192GB of RAM, 4TB of storage, and workstation software certification. The huge memory pool, four SODIMM slots, and Thunderbolt support make it stand out for video editing, VFX, local AI, and other on the go pro workflows. The main tradeoffs are the very high price after tax, the pen sold separately, and some spec choices that feel dated for the money, including DDR5 5600, a 120Hz 3.2K screen, and only one PCIe 5.0 NVMe slot. It reads like a niche powerhouse for specialized mobile work.

  • The RTX PRO 5000 configuration can support demanding creator workflows that need mobile top-end GPU power.

  • The laptop offers substantial system memory expandability with four SODIMM slots for high-RAM workloads.

  • The extended warranty can be important for after-sale coverage on a high-end workstation-class laptop.

  • The machine can enable local AI use cases where keeping questions private matters.

  • The total cost can rise above expectations after tax and the pen may need separate purchase.

  • The configuration may feel constrained for AI expectations because 24GB VRAM may only fit smaller models.

  • The system may be limited by memory and storage configuration choices such as DDR5-5600 speed and only one PCIe 5.0 NVMe slot.

  • The dedicated GPU may not be fully usable at the stated high resolution, which can lead to very low performance.

It's really funny how hobbled this 9000$ computer is. RAM speed is slow, processor is slow on single threaded apps compared to amd equivalent, also very power iGPU on it, like 4x less compared to amd equivalent, so expect the GPU to need to drive the screen instead of just running the AI stuff. Screen is good for laptop but just okay overall.
For 3000 plus a 3000 egpu setup you can get better or equivalent performance in all metrics.

It's funny but it might not. Support for running on the dedicated GPU might be lacking, stuck on the extremely hobbled iGpu you'll get a solid 10 fps at that resolution if it works at all.

Sure!
If you Like depreciating assets....
That even at $9K ( + tax) :
-DDR5 is ONLY 5600mhz (rather than higher speed, 8000+ mhz)
-ONLY has ONE 5.0 NVME slot
-Screen is ONLY 120Hz & barely 3.2K (when my older X1 is 4K Touch)
-ONLY has ICU 9 275HX cpu when the 300-Series are rolling out
-ONLY has 24 Processors & same number of Threads
*When AMD's offerings will blow it out of the water
**And ONLY 8 cores are P=Performance ones...
-And NO PEN is Included!!

To name a few.... drawbacks.

*A smart shopper would invest the 9K (or even just half) in some HY investments/stocks/etc.
Should have bought this laptop than invest the 9K in Spirit Airlines stocks.
Smart this.🤫
Stop baiting people into investments when you just pick the winners after the fact. Why don't you tell us what to invest today and personally guarantee it's performance.
It's easy to say I bought BTC at $100. Invest 9K in AAPL AMZN MSFT NVDA at IPO.
What about I invested 9K 40 years ago in Westinghouse, Sears, Blockbuster, Kodak. And I haven't even started with Enron, Bernie Madoff, FTX, Theranos etc.
Very smart.🤣🤣🤣
