I had my eyes on the Walmart 36" for $299 but I'll go check my Costco for this one this weekend. Does the Costco have more upgrades than wm? Thanks!

blackstone runs them gambit on having multiple similar yet different models across various retailers. Your best is to compare the model numbers directly on a store that happens to carry both. Others are definitely more knowledgeable but i think omnivore = thicker griddle and that a hinged hood is preferred over the flat cover.

Yes, I listed the accessories that it comes with that the Walmart one doesn't have. Bottle opener, accessory shelf, dual magnet strips vs one. The big one is the omnivore griddle that's more efficient and comes preseasoned and the hinged hood vs the detached cover.

"The Omnivore features a lighter, warp-resistant top with built-in wind guards and an "X" brace, requiring fewer BTUs for the same performance. Original models rely on heavier steel and higher BTUs"

If you need the higher BTU and to get it super hot, you'd need the original.

omnivore features a thinner plate. It's lighter, gets hot quicker and uses less propane overall.

i have used both and the members mark grease trap is a pain in the butt to deal with IMO. you will be playing putt putt golf with oil as you try to push it into the hole.

this is 36" and the lowest i saw them drop at my costco last summer.
it was also the same price when they closed them out. everyone that waited for a better price ended up snapping them up at the same mid summer sale price in the end.

How do these compare to propane grills for actual grilling of things like burgers and steaks? Why go with a Blackstone over a regular grill and vice versa?

A Blackstone is essentially a very large outdoor steel pan that can be heated to extremely high temperatures without turning your kitchen into one big smoke cloud. I use mine primarily for smash burgers, which are almost impossible to make properly on a regular grill unless you add a separate griddle attachment. The flat steel surface allows you to press the burger and develop the deep, crispy crust that makes smash burgers so good.
It also excels at cooking vegetables for fajitas, taco meat, fried rice, breakfast foods, and other meals where you want to cook multiple ingredients together and easily move them around on the cooking surface.
For steaks and traditional burgers, however, I prefer my charcoal grill. The smoke and open-flame cooking provide additional flavor that a flat-top griddle simply can't replicate.
In short, I see a Blackstone and a grill as complementary rather than competing tools—they each excel at different types of cooking.

I have been eyeing this for the last few weeks and grabbed it when I saw my local Costco put it on sale. What an amazing deal. It even comes with a cover for the weather. As I was putting it together I couldn't believe the amount of features that come with this
