Now to decide between this and the Spire 550X which is $389 at Costco in warehouse and includes a cover....
Don't get the spire! I got it today at Costco and returned it. Build quality was shit. Tons of cracked enamel parts that they just painted black over the chips to hide them, bolts that need to be loosened and retightened to assemble were torqued on such that they couldn't be loosened. It was crap. Costco took it right back tho.

That sounds about right. The reviews didn't look good.

Does this grill have a metal backing or is it just open on the backside? All Gas grills used to be enclosed but to save money many manufacturers leave the back of the grill open now.
The top portion of the back is open. I'm on my second one. I was going to keep a rear panel to cover at least some of that rear opening, but it weathered pretty badly. If it's not covered, the drip cup always fills with water. It's an OK discount grill.

I have a Thermos stainless steel grill that is 15 years old and built like a tank. About every 3-4 years I think I may finally get a new one but when I look what available my grill would be a $1000 in today's market. So I usually just replace the cooking grates and burners and hold off for another few years. Yes, I use a grill cover as it's stored outdoors and we have no snow or freezing weather in Norcal it keeps it dry in the winter and out of the harsh sun. I usually get 1-2 years on a $25 grill cover before they start to disintegrate but worth the price!

This is a decent, low-cost grill. the cooking area is very big, Lot's of SS in the construction. I like the SS grill grate, it holds up better than the cast iron, in my experience. I recommend getting a cover for it.
I picked up my second unit a few months ago. The first cabinet lasted about 10 years, I replaced everything inside it halfway through with parts from Amazon, except for the bottom drip tray. I didn't realise that was replaceable too. The drip tray finally rusted through and collapsed onto the propane tank!
I noticed that every part on the new one looks the same but is thinner and inferior to the old unit. Really, everything from the knobs to the case panels. The burners all burn unevenly and it is very difficult to get the temps you want. I usually end up running one side hot and the other off for things like chicken, etc. If you want perfection, go higher end.

I did get the Spire! All parts were perfect on mine, guess I got lucky.

i've had this grill longer than i've ever had any other grill, i rebuilt it with a kit once and now that rebuild is finally about at its end as well. i'd rebuild it again but at this point the bottom where the tank sits has started to rust out, as has the area under the burners. i'll be replacing it with another, this is a solid buy.

I had an all stainless Nexgrill for less than 2 years under a covered porch before it rusted out completely. The quality of the stainless they use is poor for a grill. It made me so mad I bought a Weber Genesis. After 8 years all I had to do to it was replace the flavorizer bars this year, body still looks great. It was $700 vs the $400 I paid for the Nexgrill but I think it was money well spent. I wouldn't be afraid to buy a used Weber Genesis on Marketplace instead which can often be had for $150-200.
