In Metro by TMobile, you only need to pay for at least one month of the phone bill and then let it sit for another 11 months + 1 day, then it will be auto software unlocked by Metro. During the 2nd month ~ 12th months + 1 day time, you can use wifi and pretty much get by with everything that you want to do in the app.
Metro typically limit one new customer promo every 180 days, so you can be a new customer at least once a year.

I got one for $99 (and $50 plan) for a month then traded it in for my Mom's new and unlocked phone at Apple. Apple credited me $350 for it.
I would not pay 6 months of service to get this unlocked. Usually people need an unlocked phone to travel overseas or use with their own existing provider. At this price and requirement, it's not a great deal.
Yes the phone is $10 and after you PREPAY 3 months of $60 THEN you can LOWER the plan for 3 months and then you can unlock your phone then. Still $235 for an Iphone 16e is better then paying full price of $599.00 But then the $599.00 will get the Iphone unlocked already so there's a trade off as you can see. Remember anything that is discounted especially for phones there has to be you have will to say xx amount of months before the phone can be unlocked.
[[$45 - 3 month $15 plan]] so do you just chat with customer service to have them switch to that deal after month #3? for months #4,5,6 ?

Yes right but I don't understand why people are shocked that the phone is locked for 6 months. Most people should know if you get a discounted phone there something things that it's acts like a trade off e.g. you have to stay for xx months until the phone can be unlocked. I a waiting for the Iphone 17e to be on sale.
You see the economics, the trade-offs, and the business reality. They just feel "it's unfair" and "but I want it now." Two fundamentally different ways of seeing the world.
