if we have wired version of these(non-ryobi) is it worth switching to battery-powered ones? are the battery-powered ones as powerful? just for home diyer

If you make the switch, I recommend you get the 40v version. They're just as powerful as the gas version and they last longer than the 18v.

I have this hedge trimmer, bought it last year on sale first time use this year and its sort of broken. Burning motor smell.. cutting pieces probably too big for it.. would prob recommend something better. I am going to get a warranty replacement on the broken one I have but.. well now I'm looking at the model that is more expensive..

Ryobi has been putting out some bangers for the price in the yard tool space for the last 2 years or so.
Both of these though are their bottom of the barrel versions of their respective tool. The battery might be enough if you are doing a small front yard or something and a hedge or two, but that is about it.
I have their hedger that is on the higher end of their 18v line and its great. The 40V isn't really necessary unless you have some crazy thick hedges or will be running it for hours at a time. I easily do a 50' row of 6' hedgers on a 4ah.
