Such are normally made for hiking in rugged terrain. Hence, rugged outsole, and body to withstand rocks, pebbles, dirt and mud. The top is usually taller to protect your feet and some part of your legs from bushes and twigs on ground that youwould expect to"pierce" thru. So, these should be rugged and sturdy. With that comes more weight.

With that said, you could still use it for normal walking in city, but may look weird if they are too husky and full throttled body. There are so many better shoes available for walking though
