Synthetic oil is better in every test.. but ultimately it comes down to what your manufacturer says.
Make and year of your car.
Many manufacturers F'ED UP and used faulty piston rings... espically for Toyota and Subaru and I am sure many others.
If your car engine is burning oil... that does not mean synthetic is better... it means your have an issue with your car engine.
