I bought this when it was on sale like this. I wanted to love it. First Yakuza game for me. I really wanted to. But combat which is the primary experience in the game just feels like a sloppier version of the Arkham series combat mixed with dynasty warriors controls.

It sounded good in theory and when I did it the first few times I was like "huh this could be cool" but I'm in the third chapter and it isn't cool, mostly just annoying. Combat is ANNOYING. And it is THE PRIMARY THING YOU DO. If you take out all the fluff content (minigames) and focus on just the narrative, you'll just be slogging through so many fist fights it defies your sense of suspended disbelief.

Funny, the turn based games were my introduction to the yakuza series and I love them. I'm a sucker for old school JRPG combat. I keep debating getting into the 'main' yakuza games but man I just don't think I have it in me to keep up with the beat em up style games as I've heard they're super repetitive. That being said for anyone on fence I have done a bit of homework and people say this is the absolute best entry point to the mainline yakuza games. At $25 you're getting a LOT of game for the price

Yep. Only buy these if I absolutely have no other option. Good game, and already own it on PS4, so no way I'm buying a fake physical version.
