I bought one when they went on sale previously at the end up April. During the setup process, there were a few times where I almost boxed it up for returns, but once I got the RTK and mower unit in ideal locations it has done a good job. It will occasionally get stuck on a few spots in the yard and I have to rescue it. I just need to mark them as no-mow zones. It does work though. I haven't mowed the lawn since April. I run it every morning and ping pong between the back yard one day and the front yard the next. I still have to get out every couple of weeks with the weed wacker to clean up the perimeter. Watching YouTube videos, most of them are on perfectly manicured, smaller, flat lawns. My yard is not that. It's lumpy, pushing the maximum limit this is made for, and not flat. After the initial setup, it has exceeded expectations.

I have a curb at the front of the yard and was worried it would drive itself off the edge, but so far that hasn't happened. They do suggest that when you train it, to keep it a bit further away from large drop offs, pools, etc. i used the manual training method where you use your phone to remote control drive it around the perimeter of each zone once and it works pretty well. You can then add exclusion zones that are inside the perimeter so that it won't try to mow over mulch and such. I think there is an auto map mode but I'm not sure how I would tell it to not enter my neighbors yard.
The app itself is decent and mostly just works. Sometimes the Bluetooth for manual training takes a couple tries to connect. The initial GPS satellite finding was a bit confusing, but once I got through that process I don't have any major gripes with the app.

I have the same yard and agree with what you said. It's perfect for those who don't want to pay a yard guy and don't mind weed whack every 3 to 4 weeks.

if you can find a good rtk spot then it's great..I have barely a quarter acre lot and my good rtk spot is at one end. it cover 95 % . One area I have to make no entry at the other end so the robot doesn't return to base. it's about a 3 x 3 foot area so all good

If you have a non bumpy yard and want golf course quality get a 2000 robo mower.

I just hope the battery lasts 2 years so i make money on the investment

Do you have any embankments or areas where the mower could throw itself off / tumble down a steep hill? I'm wondering how the automated setup will handle some of the trickier areas in my yard.

I have one of these. The app is a bit convoluted, but it does work. I've had a few issues with it getting stuck on a weird incline where it meets my landscaping. That means I have to go move it and tell it to resume. I need to just add a no go zone near the slope to keep it out.
It has a tendency to leave "mohawks" near the edges of the yard. I clean those up with my push mower.

I've gone from mowing an hour a week to spending like 5min on a quick loop around the front edges and landscaping edges.

If it tilts more than a certain percentage it'll engage it's safety stop and you'll need to go level it and punch in a pin to unlock it.
Mine does a long slope just fine, but there are steep spots near my landscaping where it's gotten hung against the flowerbed edging.
Your best bet is to set a "no go" zone for any dropoffs.

Most of those reviews are people that are expecting you to do something that it is not intended to and never would actually be able to do, or people that just don't understand. What a lawn mower robot does. And needs to be configured correctly to do.

Most of the people that have realistic expectations and the technical aptitude to set up and configure things correctly give it four or five stars.

Can anyone comment in regards to how this unit might handle moderate to borderline severe slopes?

I have a super wonky back yard, with one side sloped to the point that it's effectively dangerous to attempt to walk up and down, and one side that's sloped enough that it should be traversed on foot slowly. The last time I looked into robot mowers (it's been a few years) it was clear that the technology was not in a place that would make it reasonable for my type of yard. I don't know how far things have come since then, and I'm hoping someone here maybe has real-world experience.

The ability to create "no-go zones" with this mower is enticing, because in addition to the slopes there are a few areas that are populated by large rocks.
