The onn Large Party Speaker Gen 2 [walmart.com] for $109 at Walmart is worth consideration. It won't sound as good as this JBL, but it's still a pretty solid value for the money. The Speaker Ranking page above has links to some comparative reviews.
As for what it's for, I have one of these on my back porch, and it's enough to nicely fill my backyard with music, but not so much that I'd be worried about disturbing the neighbors.
For something like a school dance you'd want more, but if it's more just for background music while kids are playing it should be alright. Note that these support Bluetooth Auracast, so you can have more than one wirelessly connected for more output if needed.
ie. Quality of sound, brand reputation, durability, mic quality, interference issues. Which would you buy?

I love my JBL Partybox 120, though. Again, it's their smaller speakers that I think are overpriced for what they deliver.
. They can also be chained together. I picked up a 2nd speaker for the summer for djing house parties at home. Also versatile since its wireless. I can literally charge thess throw em in the car and pack up a small dj controller like my starlite and a mini battery pack and use my phone to run the program. It beats carrying vinyl and a old a school jbls with an amp a laptop and turntables.
