I have two 310s but want a small portable one like the xtreme 5. This is kinda tempting. wish it had a shoulder strap, dont see the option.

I wouldn't recommend JBL's smaller speakers, but their Partybox line is pretty much the best of their class.

The onn Large Party Speaker Gen 2 [walmart.com] for $109 at Walmart is worth consideration. It won't sound as good as this JBL, but it's still a pretty solid value for the money. The Speaker Ranking page above has links to some comparative reviews.

As for what it's for, I have one of these on my back porch, and it's enough to nicely fill my backyard with music, but not so much that I'd be worried about disturbing the neighbors.

For something like a school dance you'd want more, but if it's more just for background music while kids are playing it should be alright. Note that these support Bluetooth Auracast, so you can have more than one wirelessly connected for more output if needed.
My friend group has had six Charge 4 Speakers between us (I own 3, bought refurbished) and several others like the Xtreme 2 & 3 as well as a Boombox 2, and a couple smaller ones. I've had the refurbished 4's for 8 years and they still work as they did on day 1. I don't know a single person who hasn't had a positive experience with any JBL speaker.

Why many people are recommending buying 2 of them? Can they by used together or just as a backup?
You can link them so they can llay the same sound or play as left and right channel. While it sounds pretty good, I wish it is easier to pair them as Left and Right channel. Eveytime I turned them off, I have to repair them for them to play correctly. Very frustrating. I returned ome and keep one.

Any thoughts on this versus the other speaker Costco has on sale (Pioneer PSX615 700 Watt All-In-One Party Speaker with Auracast - https://slickdeals.net/f/19633629-pioneer-psx615-700-watt-all-in-one-party-speaker-with-auracast-199-99-free-shipping-costco-com?attrsrc=Personalization%3AInterspersed%3ATrue&src=frontpage_disco)

ie. Quality of sound, brand reputation, durability, mic quality, interference issues. Which would you buy?

The Pioneer isn't battery powered, needs an outlet, but does come with a stand as an extra.

I returned the PSX615. It was loud but to me it sounded muffled and cheap. I bought these JBL and am happy

And for most of those, I could tell you something that sounds better for half the price. It's your money. 🤷

I love my JBL Partybox 120, though. Again, it's their smaller speakers that I think are overpriced for what they deliver.

I have a pair of 120, 320, and 520. They all pair right up after turning them on. Did you update the FW to the latest?

These speakers are awesome, I have 2 110's. My only complaint is the auto shut off, they turn off after 10 minutes if not being used.

You can pair them together but they need to be the same model. I have the party box 100 so I can't pair them together with the party box 120 but I can use a wired 3.5 aux cord to use them together. Make sure you buy the Party Box of the same model to pair them wirelessly.

The speakers are legit good quality and wireless
. They can also be chained together. I picked up a 2nd speaker for the summer for djing house parties at home. Also versatile since its wireless. I can literally charge thess throw em in the car and pack up a small dj controller like my starlite and a mini battery pack and use my phone to run the program. It beats carrying vinyl and a old a school jbls with an amp a laptop and turntables.
