Doesn't seem to be the case here.

bought one for server, just need to add SSD. thanks!
FYI the coupon was wonky for me, the first coupon never worked with 3 different aliexpress account that i happen to have.
Backup coupon worked once on 1st account, then payment failed and i can't reuse the coupon.
account 2 using same browser/network refused both coupons
account 3 using different laptop/hotspot worked only with coupon 2.

Someone mentioned RDNA 2 GPU, but for server GPU doesn't really matter, so in for 1, thanks!

mrtokai is correct. But for anyone new to home labs/servers, here are some clarifications:
  • For a basic server, "the" GPU doesn't matter, but "a" GPU does. If you don't have video output, then troubleshooting can be a PITA.
  • If you're going to be dealing with streaming video, then pay attention the GPU. GPUs are better suited for things like video transcoding and analysis than CPUs. A lot of software can offload these tasks to the GPU.
  • GPUs not being used are wasting power. You often want a weaker GPU, like an integrated GPU (iGPU), than a full discrete GPU (dGPU) "video card" that uses a lot more power.
  • Intel GPUs have Quick Sync. This is generally the preferred tool for video transcoding in software like PleX. An Intel iGPU with Quick Sync is cheap, efficient, and recommended for these common tasks.
  • Many Intel iGPUs can be split into vGPUs. This is an advanced concept that most don't need to worry about. But if you are using virtualization, vGPUs are a very efficient option for providing VMs with GPU acceleration.

I prefer AMD over Intel. Even for a home lab with just CPU workloads. But since video transcoding is a common home lab task, Intel is typically the better option. (This is all very generalized.)

Bought one of these to build into a dedicated Sim rig setup + eGPU. Works pretty well so far, very compact
