RockAuto is a low-cost source for name brand auto parts, especially when the needed part is hard to find or when closeouts and same warehouse items line up. The 5 percent code can still make a real difference on already cheap parts, and the catalog tools help spot clearance items and avoid extra shipping. Shipping can climb fast across multiple warehouses, and some orders have arrived wrong, damaged, stale, or with fit issues. Customer service is handled online, with mixed experiences on returns and replacements, so it works best when you are not in a hurry.
Common Questions (5)
Often yes, especially on name-brand parts where the base price is already low and the 5% discount helps offset shipping. Several examples show delivered RockAuto prices beating AutoZone, local stores, and sometimes Amazon, though it is worth comparing exact part numbers before ordering.
RockAuto can issue prepaid return labels and ship replacements quickly when a part is wrong or defective. The practical catch is that there is no phone support, so issues are handled through the online account or email.
Keep the order to 1-2 warehouses when possible, because shipping rises fast when items come from multiple warehouses. The cart/catalog shows a little truck for parts that ship from the same warehouse, and splitting the order can sometimes make the total cheaper even after shipping and the 5% discount.
Closeouts can be excellent bargains, especially for filters and other consumables, and the closeouts filter can surface clearance items that fit your vehicle. But closeout and warehouse-closeout items can also arrive wrong, missing parts, or be non-returnable, so they need extra inspection.
RockAuto may reject checkout for Arizona shipments because of a sales tax dispute, and some parts also cannot be shipped to California. The restriction is not necessarily emissions-related, so it can block otherwise normal orders.

Example:
Standard Motor Products (SMP) Techsmart S20019 Throttle Body for 5.3L GM:
Autozone $259.99
Amazon (3rd Party) $164.35
Rock Auto $76.79
Rock Auto After Discount $72.95 + $10.99 Shipping = $83.94 to your door. Which happens to be less than 1/3 of what your local Autozone will charge you for the identical part, same manufacturer, same part number.
So, the 5% is only part of a bigger pricing picture that is most certainly worth writing home about, thus the +61 deal score as I write this. Do some comparative shopping and you'll see similar savings on other things as well.
In full disclosure, I have this exact throttle body in my daily driver for the last 4+ years and it's been flawless. Which brings me to my next disclosure, which is that the Rock Auto offering carries a 30-day warranty because it's a closeout. But still brand new in the box, same as the other sellers.
Still better than Amazon, I am certain many sellers on Amazon sell fake items. When buying form Amazon, the product doesn't always come from Amazon fyi, there can be many sellers.
Buying OEM parts from a Honda dealer is expensive and for most parts not worth it.
So rockauto is still the best.
